Xena
According to a usually reliable source, this is the result of police harassing street vendors in the area and the vendors having enough. According to this source, police make raids of vendors selling "pirated" goods. The merchandise is confiscated. The next day, the vendors go to the police station and are allowed to buy back their merchandise (at a discounted rate, of course) and return to business. The vendors are tired of it. alex45920
Does anyone know if this is due to the murder in Guanajuato of the young engineering student from Guadalajara? Sitting up here in Canada I have been looking for news on the Internet - English and Spanish - and can't find anything...not unusual. Very frustrating. Here are links to some of the more credible Mexican news sources. http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/noticias.html (There's a search bar under the logo. "Estados" will get you to the Mexican news section and "English" will get you a condensed version of the news in English.) http://www.informador.com.mx/jalisco/ (This one is good for Jalisco news. Today's lead story is about the disturbance at the mercado in Guadalajara.) http://www.sinembargo.mx/ (This is a digital news service.)
Oldyfeliz
The vendors claim that they did not cause the disturbance. They claim the "Cholos" starfed and the violence became bigger, and the Police did not arrive until three hours later.

cbviajero
My son and I were there yesterday morning,I'm glad we left when we did. They usually do these frequent pirateria raids/confiscations at San Juan de Dios in the middle of night, who knows why they changed their schedule this time. Osoprehistorico
Civil unrest? Sorta like work place violence? Playing with words leads to confusion. The first was a riot and the second terrorism.
