Internet TV

For those who want English language TV and sports packages, USTV has expanded and dropped its price. This is internet TV and several people know how to send it to their TV sets. I'm sure Computer Guy can help you. You do not need to hide your IP address. USTV is approved for sending its TV programming out of the U.S.

I'm not selling anything, just passing this along because many posters have asked how they can find sports broadcasts. I think the 13.99 price is Euros.

From USTV:

Now we have brought forward a great new partner of ours at www.QuickPlay.tv . You may have heard the buzz around this great organization because they are providing over 125 channels for just 13.99 per month. Some of the great channels you will be able to enjoy, include : ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, SPORTSNET PACKAGE, TSN PACKAGE, SKY SPORTS PACKAGE, SPIKE, ESPN PACKAGE, FOX SPORTS PACKAGE, USA NETWORK, AMC, FX, FXX, HBO, SHOWTIME, LIG TV, FOOD NETWORK, NHL LEAGUE PASS, NBA LEAGUE PASS, TNT, TBS, NICKELODEON, NBC SPORTS, NBC EXTRA TIME(EPL), BEIN SPORTS and more.

Also with this great service, there are new channels being added daily such as todays great additions : A&E, Spike, Hallmark, Lifetime Movies, SYFY. With this you will also get 7 days of video archive so you can watch anything which has played in the last 7 days on any channel.

This is what I got from USTVNOW- not sure if what you received has been compromised.

OpenSSL "Heartbleed" Vulnerability Update

Dear customer,

Information was released yesterday about a new vulnerability (CVE-2014-0160) related to OpenSSL, a cryptography library that is used for encrypting a large majority of the traffic across the Internet. An audit of our systems revealed that we were using an affected version of OpenSSL.

We immediately took steps to remedy the situation. As of 10:20pm ET on Tuesday April 8th all USTVnow servers have been updated to the latest version of OpenSSL that includes a patch for the vulnerability. No service downtime was incurred during the update.

We recommend taking the precautionary step of changing your USTVnow account password.

We are monitoring the situation closely and will post updates on our facebook page. If you have any questions about this incident, please feel free to open a ticket using the link below.

Best,

The USTVnow Team

If you have any questions, please don't reply to this email but instead OPEN A TICKET

What I posted is information about a new service USTV is offering with a partner so that people will pay less and get more channels including many more sports channels.

Just received this message from a friend of mine who received the same message you did.

If you got an email for the above supposedly from USTVnow, it is a phishing scheme. Don't reply to it.

I don't think it is illegitimate. I visited the site and it offers more channels. It might be operated by ex-USTV employees who took off on their own.

It is a phishing email, and while it may be a legitimate business, I got one a few days ago and I will not put up with unsolicited junk from a company with whom I have never made contact. Marked as SPAM immediately.

How is USTV now working?

There was a several month period last year when their live TV streaming servers were sometimes overloaded. due to them selling service to too many new customers with insufficient server capacity to keep their advertised channels working steadily. We ultimately dropped it and moved to ROKU due to USTV capacity problems.

Too much buffering, we dropped them also but we were using Roku with their service. How are you accessing US networks on Roku without using USTV Now? We have switched to Telecable digital and it works fine and even a DVR.

We are using a Mexican service called "Nano" . It used to be called "Nano-Flix", as a Mexican version of NetFlix. Costs about $250 pesos a month, has easily 500 US movies in English, has about 30 decent live TV streams in English (heavy on sports) plus 5 HBO's, several Starz, Cinemax, etc and also Spanish channels for the missus, has about 50 or so pre-recorded US TV series, like Breaking Bad, et al. They too had too many new subscribers/users back at Christmas time, creating server access & buffering issues. Nano has recently fixed their live streaming TV problems to work very well, but still sometimes has server problems on Sunday nights when lots of people jump on-line to watch pre-recorded movies.

Snowyco, do you have a website for this "Nano" service? I would like to check it out. We've been using Shaw and were able to split the monthly cost with a downstairs neighbor. But they just moved back NOB and the new neighbor doesn't want the service. :-/ So now we have to pop for the nearly $60/mo US charge or find a cheaper alternative.

Anyone using DirectTV here? If so, what does that cost per month?

Thanks

Google Nano Flix and you will see a confusing website. We have gone to digital Telecable and get many US channels in English and a real live DVR. So far, so good.

$60 a month? And you were only paying a share of that? That's nothing.

That gets you so few channels. I pay $150/month to Shaw and, that's after cutting back.

After getting several emails about Quickplay, I decided to ask them some questions. Why does the email say $13.99 and the website says $13.99 pounds. If you didn't like the service how do you cancel it. They stated in the email they had all USTVNow channels plus more. I checked the list on both. They did not at that time have all the channels on USTVNow. I asked them about it.

This was three weeks ago and except for the robot email saying their personnel would get back to me shortly, not a peep out of them.

I then called USTVNow and asked them if they were involved with Quickplay. The answer was No. They were looking for the people behind the company to put a stop to them using their name at the minimum. At that time they had traced Quickplay to India.

Since India is one of the scamming countries, I would not recommend Quickplay to anyone.

Quickplay is located in Toronto. It is a large company. The support phone number is in a 647 area code.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuickPlay_Media

QuickPlay was founded in April 2004 and is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario; with offices throughout the US and in London, England. The company currently has 1.5 million content assets under management.

QuickPlay Media has received venture funding from GMP Securities L.P., General Catalyst Partners, Ventures West, J.L. Albright and Up Capital.

In May 2010, research firm IDC named QuickPlay to its list of "Ten Canadian Mobile and Wireless Companies to Watch."

The president and CEO is of Indian ancestry.

The monthly fee is in Euros not pounds.

I guess I haven't looked closely but from what I've seen Quickplay has the same channels as USTVnow and additional channels which are mainly sports channels.

I haven't known of many competitors who will give me a good or even fair recommendation of their competition but it does look like Quickplay has bought an interest in USTVNow so it is odd that USTVNow is giving Quickplay a bad recommendation.
