cedros
From time to time I get messages from people I know to connect on Linkedln. I never do as I can't see the point. Do any people here find it useful?

bournemouth
Linked In appears to go in and cannibalize peoples' address books and they have no idea everyone they know is being invited to join Linked In. I send them all to spam - and very persistent is Linked In - the messages go on coming for ages.
gringal
They're almost as bad as Facebook, which keeps sending me messages on my yahoo email that random people in my address book are "friending me". Same deal with Linkedin. I'm not a member of either, and I don't want to be. They are intrusive, privacy-destroying instruments of the Dark Side. Bah, humbug. JayBearII
I am sure Linked In is useful to people who are still networking, but I am long retired, and I should really get on the site and remove my resume, only I keep thinking that I might hear from some old (of course) colleague who wants to say hello. The only thing I have gotten so far is an email from someone I have been avoiding since approx 1986. And while we're at it, I do not post on Facebook either; if I wanted someone to see my personal photos I would send them my personal photos. These sites give me hives! On the other hand, I would like a recommendation as to which sites in the modern world I might actually like, other than, of course, chapala.com. Start a new thread if you have recommendations other than TOB, on which I post also.

Xena
Yeah, all the major corporations look through Linkedin self-inflated bios and resumes when they have job openings because they know all the "relevant" people are on there.
gringal
Yeah, all the major corporations look through Linkedin self-inflated bios and resumes when they have job openings because they know all the "relevant" people are on there. Mental picture: members linking hands, forming a circle and singing Kumbaya, relevantly.
Bunyan
y'all got it. Linkedin is not for us. We're all retired. If we wanted to use a social networking site (which most of us old geezers do not see the need for) it would not be Linkedin. But when I was in business, Linkedin was relatively new and quickly became a quite valuable resource. Lots of contacts, business leads, employee leads and business partnering possibilities. Now it seems to be more of just another social networking site. So be it. If that's what they're after. Whatever.
