So where did the military go?

Out between La Canacinta and La Cristina they put in two giant topes with rumble strips, built two protected areas for the patrols to watch the traffic, set up huge lights and now they are gone! On Saturday I saw a big transport truck pulling out and headed west with about 30 guys in it and there was no one in the the gun posts. They was no one there yesterday or today either. Are they gone for good or just on another assignment? I was under the impression this was to be a manned station for a couple of years.

They were manned when I went past on Thursday.

The post says they left on Saturday and were gone Sunday and today which means that they would have been there Thursday.

I suspect--without any real knowledge whatsoever--that they were relocated to Michoacán. The newly named national Secretary of Public Security has militarized security in that state. A large convoy of troops attempted to re-locate in the Tierra Caliente (hot lowlands) of Michoacán today but were rebuffed. Dollars to doughnuts at least some of the convoy came from your neck of the woods.

I'm gonna take a wild stab and guess that they were sent where they are more needed at this time. Sort of like how an Army would normally operate.

Only somewhat less speculatively, I can say "with my own eyes" I saw three transport trucks filled with Army on Thursday morning of last week. I was heading away from the lake going toward Guadalajara on the Chapala-Guadalajara Highway. Those three trucks were traveling in the same direction and grabbed a retorno before we were at the airport, and I speculated that they were heading west to go to or through Tlajomulco and points beyond.

Unless they just flat-out missed the La Barca exit and back-tracked to head to Michoacan.

In other words, who knows? Certainly none of us. If only the Army would post updates on Chapala.com.

I hope so. God knows those people need help. Problem is that the creeps when chased away from one place just end up trying to move in on other nearby areas Hope they do not chase them out in this direction. Or maybe we should be making a community plan to protect ourselves?

I can see the abandoned Military post manned by a group of civilians hell bent on keeping the bad guys out of Lakeside. Old, knobby kneed gringos with kayak paddles and walking sticks raised high, standing side by side with the angry Realtors and restaurant owners. I am not certain who would be in more jeopardy, a bad guy retreating from the battle ground in Michoacan or someone trying to pass by who identifies them self as an INM official!

They may have gone there. The troops that went to Michoacan could have come from anywhere. Likewise the ones that were here could have gone anywhere.
