can anyone tell me how to travel to ixtapa/zih in september by bus or plane

as there seems that no-one goes from guad. in sept. I've checked etn and

tap, I've also checked flights as well only one airline goes there but seems

to stop before sept. I would appreciate any input from the locals

You need to break it into two legs, whether by bus or plane.

Bus: Guadalajara to Morelia, then Morelia to Zihuatanejo. (Don't know if ETN does the second leg, but other lines do.)

Plane: Guadalajara to Mexico City, then Mexico City to Zihuatanejo.

It can undoubtedly be sliced in other ways, but those two will be easy.

Some Morelia/Zihuatanejo bus info/clues can be found here. I would NOT trust the schedule info on the site, but it at least indicates which bus companies serve the route.

http://www.tam-sa.co...ATANEJO&linea=%

There's also a local Zihuatanejo message board/forum. I'm sure people can answer your questions about best way to get there from Guadalajara. Here's a link.

I don't know which Mexican airlines serve Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa from within Mexico, but somebody on the message board portion of that forum will know.

Good luck.

Using the Orbitz site I found the following as an example. Note that the airport is in Ixtapa so searching for a flight to Zihua will not return anything:

The other day, I glanced at Interjet, Volaris and VivaAerobus because I was curious to see who might be serving Zihuatanejo from Mexico City (besides AeroMexico). Didn't look like any of them were. I assumed somebody was filling the old Mexicana flights, but I guess not, and that must be why AeroMexico is getting away with those ridiculous fares. (Just like they are between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta currently. No competition.)

One of the less expensive airlines might add some flights between now and then though. Who knows.

If they don't, methinks it's a bus trip.

Interjet does fly from Mexico city to Zihuatenejo daily.I was at the airport this week and saw the flight.

You are right! I knew I'd seen that one of them added Zihuatanejo a while back, but didn't see it on the Interjet website the other day. Thanks for catching my error. Good to know AeroMexico isn't the only game in town.

Just drove it within the past week, spent the night with friends in Morelia and then drove from there to Ixtapa. Bus route is probably similar, doubt anything direct from here locally or Guad. It might be possible to bus to Colima but I hear the road stinks from there to Ixtapa.

Hello baxter6,

My wife and I make the journey between Guad and Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa every year using the bus. The night sleeper bus is direct and the day bus may stop in Morelia to pick up more passengers.

We leave from the 2nd building at the New Central de Autobuses in Guad. The bus line is Autovias. Very luxurious and comfortable! Mexico has the #1 bus service in the world! I love riding them. Takes about 10 hours. See link that follows.

Just an option that I have always used: Go to the web site for the desired destination &/or airport and review the arrivals schedules. It will provide all airlines & the necessary connecting cities. Good Luck

[i was intrigued by the notion of taking the luxury bus to Zihuatanejo but was a bit put off by an overnight run and pedro´s comment that the bus ride takes about ten hours since the drive to Zihuatanejo from Lakeside via Uruapan only takes about five hours so I looked it up and discovered a bus that leaves Guadalajara at 9:00AM and arrives at Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo at 5:00PM (eight hours) with stops in Perepero, Uruapan and Cuatro Caminos en-route. I guess the ten hours is about right when one figures that one must bus from Ajijic or Chapala and then get from Alamo to the Central de Autobuses so the all-encompassing journey from Lakeside is right at ten hours. There is another bus at about noon which gets in at 8:00PM if 9:00AM from Guadalajara is a bit early for some.

I appreciate pedro bringing this up as I plan to attend a fair in Downtown Uruapan during the coming year and that bus from Guadalajara might prove the best way to get to that city since I won´t need a car there at that time.

Beeland, the one I referred to as the "day bus" is the 9:00am bus which we did once but then started riding the 11:00pm "sleeper" because it is so roomy, only 3 seats across and fewer seats in total which almost completely recline and never full. They are so comfortable and quiet that we have no trouble sleeping all the way to Zihua without burning a whole waking day riding the bus. Nice to climb on, go to sleep and suddenly wake up in Zihua!

I hadn't check the schedule when I sent the link to baxter6 and was just estimating the time from memory. Appears that our night sleeper takes 8 hours (drives slower?) and the other day buses are less time travel as you stated.

I've been riding the buses around Mexico for 15 years and there's no better way to travel in my opinion.

There is a great book which has every bus connection and time schedule to everywhere in Mexico just about (major & minor cities & towns) which is the "Bible" for bus travelers in Mexico. I will send the link in the post that follows. Can't recommend it enough for those who enjoy luxury bus travel! Have a safe trip!
