HelperGuy Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 My personal restaurant list says Mario's is closed on Mondays, and I haven't been in a while. Do we know for sure it's closed on Tuesdays?
BillinaBus Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 We happened to be in Guad day before yesterday and stopped at a Chili's for lunch, to my surprise the hamburger (with avocado) there was amazingly good... great bun, unusually tasty meat and well done presentation. I know it's not really 'in town' but there is one on the Chapala/Guadalajara highway and many more spread out through the city. The one we stopped at is in a large shopping center on Patria.
Guest RevImmigrant Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 The best hamburger in town is the one you make yourself. You can use what you like for meat (more fat, less fat, sirloin, round, etc), season it the way you like before cooking, cook it the way you like, use your choice of bun and toppings and, since you're eating it at home, you can be as messy as you like and no one will say anything.
catinmex Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 I agree with Revimmigrant. And when we do so, we like to use the whole wheat thin buns. But, every now and again..............we just want to go out for one, so the suggestions on this thread are appreciated. Some places that we've tried in the past and liked have changed and knowing that in advance saves having a disappointing experience.
crjd Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Best Burger: In the following order: 1st. Early Bird Cafe 2nd. Cafe Magana 3rd. Tomas Bar in Chapala The bun has to be toasted and of good quality........... and sadly, the burger, as a meal, only becomes really great if Fresh Cut (not frozen) fries are available......in my own opinion. And don't believe anyone who tells you that quality fries cannot be made from Mexican potatoes. Best Hot Dog: Despite years of looking. Not yet found as store bought buns virtually fall apart upon contact with liquid in the condiments. One has to be particularly careful of wieners as most made in Mexico are made from Pavo (turkey), lack flavour and simply can't live up to the incredible variety of quality wieners (beef, pork and veal) available NOB. Here, unfortunately,Costco's Kirkland weiners are extremely greasy (boil them before you put them on the grill and you'll be shocked at the amount of grease that remains in the water) but Sam's Club offer several varieties of good quality wieners and if you read the ingredient listing you'll see for yourself. You'll note a very low "fat" content.
artsnob Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Oh i have to go to Costco and get those greasy weiners, How do you think my hair stays so curly!!!
Spinner Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Just got home from 60's in Paradise with a group of 6 people and they were packed. We all ordered something different, burgers both medium rare and 2 were to be well done and they all were cooked perfectly. 2 from our group were so happy that they had so many alternatives, like 3 different salads. It seemed to us that the main focus was definitely on burgers, but thankfully they also offer several grilled chicken options and salads. The grilled chicken, goat cheese, spinach, almonds and I think cranberries with an amazing balsamic salad dressing was to die for, amazing! Not sure why other that have commented here don't like that they offer a couple different options. Yes, they specialize in burgers and they are ground sirloin, you can taste the difference, wow was that great meat. But why not let those who don't want beef to order a salad or grilled chicken? I think all restaurants want to have the customers happy. If something is wrong, I am sure they would be more then happy to make it right if you let them know about it. The cooks at 60's have been there since day one and were trained by the original owner. It really is a cute place and they all seem to try very hard to please everyone.
Mainecoons Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Hmm, a newbie shows up raving about perfectly cooked burgers there. You mean like the obvious commercial patty cooked to death with laughable slice of cheap American cheese for 80 cents more that I got? Sorry, but this place doesn't serve the same quality of burger as it did under the previous ownership. I ate there enough times to know the difference and I won't make that mistake again. I smell a ringer here.
Guest RevImmigrant Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Artsnob, I think Sam's has better wieners.
gringal Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Here's a thought: Where's the best burger for under 50 pesos .........and ............where's the best for over that. IMO: Class one: Chimi's Class two: Tony's. Let's judge the dogs in their class, or in this case, burgers.
slainte39 Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 A strong second for Mainecoons opinion after having tried both places numerous times (Early Bird vs. 60´s)
Mainecoons Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 BTW, I hope everyone knows I was being sarcastic when I "compared" to McDonalds. I haven't been near one for a good 40 years or more. Really! And if I've done a disservice the the poster above, I apologize but it does look a bit suspicious when someone with no posting history shows up and puts a "rebuttal" up that reads like a commercial for the place. Sorry for any misunderstandings but I stand by my review. Burger and fries not worth the price of admission for me, not even close.
KenSmith Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Well, I put up a response to the the false comment about commercial burger patties. My comment was deleted and yet the original malicious comment stands. It is simply not right to allow mean spirited and untrue comments about local business to remain online while a rebuttal is deleted. Let's see how long this remains.
