ChrisB Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 The other day at the plant in the Delegado had to step over several dog piles. he is going to get more signs made about picking up , but, after that the next step is to ban dogs. Please carry bags and if you see someone not picking up offer them a bag and ask them to do so for the good of all.
nopalesflower Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 You are right about that. Responsible dog owners pick up after their dogs. No matter where they live.
Mainecoons Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Might be a good revenue source. Put the town cop down there and write up some fat fines for this. But first, you have to round up all the loose dogs. Are you going to do this?
nothernewbie Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 How about all of us who walk there chip in and pick up all the dog piles we see? It is good for the aesthetics, good for your waistline and good for your soul.
ChrisB Posted June 17, 2013 Author Report Posted June 17, 2013 We have been saving our little veg bags and giving them to the bathroom people to sell for a couple of pesos to the nonpickeruppers. We tell them if the buyer declines to tell them that a couple of pesos is better than a fine. Street dogs are a fact of life we can't do anything about. We can just try to make things better not perfect
Mainecoons Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Funny, I don't recall seeing any street dogs in San Miguel. Are you sure you can't do anything about them? Otherwise, how do you know where the crap is coming from?
Shelley Ronnfeldt Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Mainecoons, all any of us can do is what we can do. There is a limited amount anyone can do about loose dogs. However, what I can do is pick up after my own dogs, and sometimes after others as well. If we as a community were to round up all loose dogs, what do you suppose we would do with them? There certainly is NOT room in the local shelters. I don't really want to contemplate the alternative. The OP was just asking that we all pick up after our own dogs, which is a very reasonable request.
Mainecoons Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Well, then you don't know where the crap is coming from. And all those loose dogs out scattering the garbage sure work against the efforts to clean up. I don't recall a bunch of loose dogs running around San Miguel like they do here, but maybe that is my imagination. I'm going to ask "Ajijic" to comment on that. But I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if buried in the municipal code somewhere is a prohibition against loose dogs.
Mainecoons Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 BTW, dog crap is quite a health hazard for people and dogs. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Articles/clean_up_waste.cfm http://www.scoopthedoo.co.uk/dooFacts.aspx
Spot Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Time to move to San Miguel since it is so much better.
hensley Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 If we could only get our Mexican neighbors to clean up their yards which are cement and they have many dogs. Oh the smell.
Mainecoons Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Do you have anything useful to contribute to this thread?
hensley Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 That sounds like a personal attack, if the MX neighbors won't clean their own properties why are they going to clean elsewhere.
solajijic Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Do you have anything useful to contribute to this thread? Mainecoons - that should get you banned. What she says is valid to the conversation and you brought your personal animosity into the topic. It doesn't get more against the rules than that. Shame.
austinx Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 My only concern is that a lot of these "street dogs" are really family pets who are out for their daily exercise. How would you tell the difference? Euthanizing peoples pets doesn´t seem like a good answer.
LaChula Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 We walk there early in the mornings, and there has been an increase in owners letting their dogs run off- leash. Then they "don't see" their dogs' poop. They also don't seem to mind if their dog (s) spook other people's dogs.Others have taken to walking down along the lake, and don't seem to think they have to pick up there. I have never seen any of the workers paying attention to the dogs and owners, they are busy watering or collecting trash that folks strew around the ground and from the receptacles. maybe later they would be available to give out bags. I thought about talking to Hector, but what can he do other than put up more signs that people can ignore? There aren't extra people to be poop police. I personally hesitate to "suggest" to the offenders what they should do.
Mainecoons Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks. The answer to my question appears to be "no." We are not discussing dog crap in your neighbor's yard or Mirasol where you live. We are discussing dog crap in public spaces such as the Ajijic Malecon. I have sent "Ajijic" who lives in San Miguel a PM and asked him to share with us what, if anything, is being done there about this problem.
gringal Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 The "cute" remarks aren't contributing to a solution. San Miguel, at least when I lived their, did something about the loose dogs, and anyone who doesn't have his/her head in the sand knows what that was. Not nice to think about, but otherwise, we need a philanthropist who is willing to establish a huge dog shelter, pay all the costs including those of catching the dogs and supporting them for the rest of their lives. Any volunteers? Meanwhile, those who take their dogs to the park, let them off leash and turn their heads away when puppy poops are the ones who think the world is "all about me" and short of surveillance and fines, are not about to change their behavior. Lets hear some practical solutions. The problem in the park is getting worse, not better.

Are you sure you can't do anything about them?Otherwise, how do you know where the crap is coming from? MaineCoons. Most of the dogs I see in the mornings are not street dogs, their owners are there. Also, I know some of the dogs who have owners who just let the dog out for an early morning walk, and then they wander home.
Mainecoons Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Mainecoons - that should get you banned. What she says is valid to the conversation and you brought your personal animosity into the topic. It doesn't get more against the rules than that. Shame. You think these were germane to a thread about dog poop in the Ajijic park? Time to move to San Miguel since it is so much better. If we could only get our Mexican neighbors to clean up their yards which are cement and they have many dogs. Oh the smell.
LaChula Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 That sounds like a personal attack, if the MX neighbors won't clean their own properties why are they going to clean elsewhere. at the Ajijic Malecon, most of the dogs have Gringo owners.
Xena Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 "Do you have anything useful to contribute to this thread?" .. Mainecoons Funny, Mainecoons, I was about to ask you the same thing. This thread is about asking people to pick up after their own dogs and maybe even others if they want to maintain the privilege of having an off-leash park. Perhaps you should start your own thread about the problems of loose dogs and the joys of living in SMA.
Mainecoons Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 MaineCoons. Most of the dogs I see in the mornings are not street dogs, their owners are there. Also, I know some of the dogs who have owners who just let the dog out for an early morning walk, and then they wander home. I suspect you are right. We've had words with more than a few of these gringo folks who walk their dogs on our street and leave the poop behind. Ajijic wants to be a "Pueblo Magico." I am curious if a similar role model that is one has come up with a way of dealing with this problem. Maybe so, maybe not. Some communities NOB have doggie bag dispensers in the parks. Maybe some local group would like to sponsor this?
gringal Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Where did anyone get the idea that the Ajijic Malecon and the park are "off leash". Last time I read the law (on this very thread) ALL DOGS were to be on leashes at all times when they are in public. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. The Ajijic park was designed to be a "people park" where little kids can run around off leash. There is a dog park in the La Floresta area where pets can be legally off leash. What is the problem?
LaChula Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 The problem is not the bags, nor the dogs, it is the owners.
