Tis the season.... For creepy crawly things....

Just to remind everyone that the bugs come out to play at this time of year, looking for water, no doubt.

Shake your shoes and sandals out before putting them on. My husband found a scorpion in his shoe yesterday. Today he found a black widow spider in the bathtub. Cockroaches run rampant this time of year and despite my use of bleach in the dishwasher, they still seem to get in there. I put the plugs in the drains every night with an inch of water on top and they still invade my kitchen. Check your bed before you get into it and shake out bath towels and kitchen towels before using them. And magazines and newspapers. Favourite scorpion hiding places. You probably won't die from a scorpion bite but according to those who have been bitten, it hurts like hell, plus the "Ick" factor.

Carmen Canela sprays at our house regularly but this time of year is just Icky. Not complaining, just sayin'

You mean...... she sprays and you still have buggies? Yikes.

I have never had my house fumigated, but this may be the time to do it.

Once the rains begin, check out all dry areas, under garden furniture, and especially clay pots with curved handles. Red-Back spiders.

Dang, my maid found one on the inside of a pair of pants hanging in the closet. Apparently they like it dry.

Geez, I would hate that. I live on second florr. I think that helps to be up instead of ground level. But I am always on the look out, never see anything but an occasional daddy long legs.

I used a product called MAX Force when i first moved in. Never see roaches. Good stuff. Expensive but worth every cent.

Stop by the office and we will show you how to safely spray your house or we will do it for you.

We used to use a product called EXPEL (by Ajax?) but haven't been able to find any lately. It worked well. Anyone know where to get it?

I believe that I have seen it at Walmart recently. I think it has been reformulated and is back on the market - not sure it will work as well.

I saw it on the bottom shelf in the cleaning supply section at SuperLake the other day.

"]TioBob, where is your office? We are having big trouble with cucarachas.

We are in Plaza Bugambillas where the computer store was located. Go in the main entrance, we are the second door on the left. We will be glad to show you how to do your own spraying.

TioBob, what ratio do you use when mixing your spray? Seems the bugs stayed away quite awhile when Jackie sprayed for us. We got a sprayer and did it once ourselves, and have wondered if we're getting the mix correct.

Thanks!

Heather

The pants were hanging in a closet on the second floor. *faint* These red-backs are reclusive. I know two gardeners who were moving a pot with circular clay handles and bitten. I've found one in handle last year. If you get bitten by one of these nasty insects, get medical attention .

Does the water in a bowl around the bed legs work? Keep the scorpions from climbing up? Anyother home remedies I should know about?

Costco has a floor cleaning product that kills bugs AND is safe for pets. For scorpions, I like Cyn-Off. Mix it according to directions in a big, heavy duty spray bottle and spray inside and out around all windows and doors. Pour a little down each drain. Keep the pets away until it dries and it is safe for them too.

I keep the bed a few inches from the wall with no headboard. I have an old hollywood style bed frame and I figure they aren't going to climb up the legs and upside down on the box spring just to get in the bed. It has worked so far.

bookwoman you sure have a buggy place-that must be much worse than most houses. Mine has never been sprayed and I only have the occasional scorpion which gets caught in a sticky trap.

Have you considered trying to block where they come in?

I have found a very simple way to get rid of cockroaches. My kitchen door does not have a screen and never will as it is a metal wall unit including the window and the door. The door is always open at this time of year so our pets can get out on the atrium. And the cockroaches get in. I put a dish of water out in the evening and lo and behold I am drowning them by the handfuls. Never fail to get some and no worry about any kind of sprays for the animals.

Do you sell the proper spray bottles to mix the solution in? We put it into Windex-type spray bottles and it doesn't work very well.

I don't sell the spray bottles. We only spray as a sideline to our water purification business. I recommend using a 4 liter or larger sprayer that you can pressurise by pumping it up.

LOL about the MIL.. mine will never come and I am so sad..NOT!

We are from phoenix.. the scorpion capitol of the world I think. I have spent , I kids you not, thousands of dollars over the years trying to kill them, keep them out, repel them etc. heres what we have found that works

diatomaceous earth (not sure if you cant get it here) http://www.richsoil.com/diatomaceous-earth.jsp

glue traps

chickens ( they eat scorps like I eat doughnuts!)

killing their food source.. they love crickets and roaches

and for the ones I find, I like to zap them.. http://www.bugspraycart.com/traps/electric/hand-held-zapper

(we saw one of these at the ajijic tiangue on weds)

last but totally the easiest and best.. my shoe!

At least the centroids type (bark scorpions) aren't deadly.. Ive been stung several times as all of us in my family has. The venom is a neurotoxin, so you stung and it feels like a bad case of pins and needles as if you sat on your foot to long. Medically, the only real danger is for babies and if you have respiratory concerns or are frail. When we get a patient in the ER with a sting, we usually just give them some benedryl and let them relax for a bit.

I read that there are other types of scorps here as well as my familiar enemy..ill be squishing them as well!

the only good scorp is a dead scorp!
