Chamanelo Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 I have read the comments about the meat stores in town and have tried them all. I continue to buy my meat in Guadalajara at (Carnes Selectas, the best meat in guad) But since The ajijic meat center opened there are no more trips to Guad! The meat is fantastic, Tender and has great texture! The prices are between 10% and 30% cheaper and better quality! ( except in Arrachera, there price is a bit more but the meat is better quality ) than in Guad) They have specialty cuts lamb, alligator, buffulo, goat, salmon, and great fresh Tuna imported and National, chicken and all the normal stuff! No reason to eat at any restaurant when you can get quality like this! It's hard to believe, when someone says it's good, they finally are telling the truth! They have been open a very short time and already expanding! It must be good! Thanks guys for saving me from those long trips to Guad.
Ginger Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 Is this the new meat market behind the Pemex on the Libriamento? They weren't open last time I went by there.
Carolina Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 Where is this place? Don't know which one is Plaza Interlago! thanx.
gary c. Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 I'm glad that someone has found the meat good. We bought hamburgers and steak from them a few weeks ago; right as they were opening. The meat items were frozen. We cooked the burgers, tried to eat them, couldn't. Chopped them up and gave them to the guard dog. I thawed the steak; it had a terrible odor, so I tossed it before cooking. Didn't even try to feed it to the dog. Unless we hear from a lot of people that the meat is better than Tony's, we'll stick to his shop.
maryannborman Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 Is this new? Is it the same place that opened s few months ago next to the German Restaurant on the Careterra in La Floresta? Is that one still operating?
MountainGal Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 Is this new? Is it the same place that opened s few months ago next to the German Restaurant on the Careterra in La Floresta? Is that one still operating? No, this is a different one. Located off the Libramiento behind Pemex.
sm1mex Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 I was in there about 3 weeks ago. The owner said they have a store in Guad also and they supply many restaurants in Ajijic and Guad. They had a large inventory. We didn't need anything at the time but I am going to give them a try.

catinmex Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 We just stopped by to pick up steaks for supper and even though one of the poster said the meat was frozen, we didn't realize that it is ALL frozen. We bought 2 new yorks and 2 portions of salmon....all for 150 pesos. I hope it's good cuz the price certainly is. However, we had to stop by Sonora's on the way home to buy some fresh filets for our supper tonight.
Catherine Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 Great place, great staff, super selection. Clean, very clean! Meat was great we will try the fish and shrimp next week.
border crosser Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 Went there Wednesday afternoon and bought 2 nice choice rib eyes for a total of $110 pesos. Yes they were frozen but I put them in the fridge and took them out about an hour before putting them on the grill. They were nice and thick and well marbled and were tender and delicious. They have two grades that are more expensive than choice, I don't know how they could be any better! I will definitely go back for more.
borderreiver Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 I highly recommend Thawing in the fridge - yes, it can take 2 days @ 37 C. Plan ahead. Huge quality difference. U'll have very little "dripage". I'm about to bbq a couple of salmon fillets thawed this way, maybe a half tsp of dripage. Do the experiment, fridge thaw or whatever. I don't think u'll go back to the "whatever" . If you want that steak on the bbq now, buy fresh. Note : numerous bovines, fish, and shellfish, etc. have been used during my experiments, and, cheerfully eaten, some, with a fine Chianti. Jajaja.

Guest Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 I had a prime rib from the Guadalajara store and it was so tender and juicy....will try the shop here now that I know I don't have to drive to Guadalajara for good, inexpensive meat.
crjd Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 There's good and bad to report. The cuts are not what you would be used to NOB.....not under any circumstance. We purchased a very unusual frozen package containing two very large lamb racks. The way they were packaged it actually looked like it was the entire rib-cage of a medium sized lamb. Unfortunately we did not read the small print and the racks were marinated. When we roasted them they simply disintegrated as they had been marinated for far too long. I mentioned it to the owner on our next visit and he simply said that he had not had any personal experience with the product! Suggested that I try something else. I might......it depends!
batv Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 hello we arrive from canada and they have some new thing (tomahawk steaks are fantastic) and sea bream
Chooch57 Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 I am from the Maritimes and I have a hard time to buy frozen fish unless you freeze it yourself. It is just not the same. Meat I have no problem frozen, anyway I will give it a try. Thanks

Chooch57 Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 Thanks MexYcan I did in Chapala also they even had smoked Salmon but nothing like here. :) The Fresh fish was awesome.
MtnMama Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 I bought some salmon and it was tasty but VERY expensive. The meat they had in the case had way too much fat and was also pricy. This is the shop behind the Pemex right?
Guest RevImmigrant Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 I got some lamb filet at the Ajijic Meat Center. I could tell it was from very young lamb since the filets were very small. I cut it up and make a Moroccan tagine. It was delicious and just what I wanted. Next I will use the lamb loin for something.
