pedrok Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 where can one get a good hamburger around lake chapala? I have tried one place called the tajoburger and they only served frozen burgers from costco. WHERE'S THE BEEF?
lakeheron Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 There was just a thread about burgers under the topic heading "Tajho" or with that in the subject. Go have a look.
Jeanneb2000 Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 I like the cheeseburgers at Tony's next to Super Lake.
moonhill Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 I posted a thread about Tajho Burger yesterday in the La Cocina section of this webboard. Many good replies about where to find the best burger. We hardly ever try a new restaurant without first reading the reviews on La Cocina, except yesterday when we tried Tajho Burger, big mistake. Go back to the beginning of this webboard and click on La Cocina.
simpsca Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 That means Tajo burger has gone down hill fast. They were good when they first opened.
jkgourmet Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 That means Tajo burger has gone down hill fast. They were good when they first opened. Not necessarily. What one person describes as a 'good burger' may be a terrible burger to someone else. And the INconsistency of the restaurants in Lakeside is the only thing you can consistently count on. Disclaimer : I've never eaten at Tajo.
k2tog Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 That means Tajo burger has gone down hill fast. They were good when they first opened. We went to Tajo burger when it first opened and was getting great reviews. I had the arrachara burger and hubby got a sirloin burger. They were really good. However, the fries do come out separate and early like they are an appetizer. Don't understand how you can tout yourself as a burger joint and not understand the concept of serving fries along side the burger...but that may just be me! We went back to have another good burger and we were disappointed. I did ask to have to the fries come out with the burger which they did -- however, when you order fries, they tell you they are for two people almost like if there are two of you at the table you can only get a single ore of fries. I digress...I ordered the sirloin, which was a pressed patty and when it arrived I had to wipe the grease off with several napkins, but the damage had been done because at this point my bun was so wet it wouldn't hold the burger together any more. I was grossed out! We will not be going back which is a disappointment because our first experience there was SO much better then our last.
lindadunn Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 I just returned from Chimi's which is located across the street from LCS on 16 de Septembre. IMO they have one of the best burgers in Ajijic. I get the one with everything... onion, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and bacon. It comes with fries. The total bill comes to 52 pesos including a soft drink!!! Gotta love Chimi's.......
giltner68 Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 The Turtle was always great - when open. I like Cafe Magana generally, they also say Johnny's Mamas Bar and 60's in Paradise both serve good ones.
happy jackson Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 If anyone finds a blue cheese bacon burger in town, let us know. Used to serve them in our restaurant NOB and they were near the top of the favorite list. It was tops for me.
gringal Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 In reading the opinions on this thread and the other one...........I think it comes down to what it is you are seeking in a burger. Some like 'em "juicy" but some think those "greasy". With fries, some like 'em greasy; some like 'em oven baked and some hope they started out with a fresh potato rather than a frozen package. So, my own personal preference is lean but not overcooked, my choice of condiments sitting on the counter or my table with the top mayo, ketchup and mustard brands offered. Buns or rolls are important: substantial enough to last through the burger without dissolving in your hands. Preferably NOT Bimbo Buns. . Fries: I like 'em when they are freshly cut, and not greasy. If it's fresh, well prepared and doesn't have cheat sprinkle on it.........a good burger won't feel like a rock in your gut or a gas generating baloon later. It's a shame that so many lakeside eateries start out with top ingredients and just about the time people start saying good things about them, they start cutting back on the quality, adding "cheat sprinkle", buying low end frozen fries and not changing the grease often enough. Then there's the good cheese morphing into junk. I guess if you want the best burger..........fire up your own barbie.
thevalerieleigh Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 I think 60's in Paradise has a tasty burger and I understand Early Bird Cafe is serving them now as well. When they owned 60's in Paradise, I thought theirs were the best. But like others mentioned, everyone has different opinions so I encourage you to give them a try and decide for yourself! Enjoy! Valerie :)
mysunshine Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 My husband loves the burgers at the Garden Restaurant on Colon...always cooked to perfection and to your order of condiments and best of all good beef that is not greasy. Enjoy!
Jeanneb2000 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 I think 60's in Paradise has a tasty burger and I understand Early Bird Cafe is serving them now as well. When they owned 60's in Paradise, I thought theirs were the best. But like others mentioned, everyone has different opinions so I encourage you to give them a try and decide for yourself! Enjoy! Valerie :) I agree with you Val. I've had burgers that were rather nasty, but the rest of the food I've had in that restaurant was pretty darn good. To some of the other posters on this forum, don't judge a restaurant by the one entree you tried. I love the rice at El Sarape, but not their beans but I still go there as the rest of the food is good and I just don't order the beans. Another restaurant I go to has in my opinion the worse hamburger in town also has , in my opinion, some of the best food in town. Just my opinion
Floradude Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Add El Serape to the above places.
losgatos Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Dito El Sarape. Definitely serves one of the best burgers in town. I particularly like the bacon cheeseburger.
Ginger Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Definitely Early Bird for me of the ones I've tried. They have a stuffed burger as well.
angela04101 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Gringal, I give up - what's "cheat sprinkle"?
catinmex Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 It's definitely the sirloin burger at 60's In Paradise, which on the lake side of Hidalgo about 1/2 block west of the Ajijic Plaza.
Guest verchiel Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 We love the burgers at Mario's in San Antonio ... just delicious. Of course, that's the best diner in town.
E=MC2 Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 My Favorite burger is at Mario's in San Antonio!! Closed on tuesdays, try the patio in back.
gringal Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Gringal, I give up - what's "cheat sprinkle"? There are several, and most contain MSG and its brethren and sistern. Smoke/ charcoal broiled flavored, for instance. Good old Lawry's salt. And so on. Easy to tell.......later.......when the burping starts and the gut swells. Burger experience over the weekend. Chimi's, across from LCS. Simply beef, plus lettuce and regualr burger cheese, tomato and onion. Hand cut freshly fried fries and the price: $30 pesos. IMO, that's hard to beat. Tony's is good, too, and much bigger, but much more pesos. I like that you can have a baked potato instead of fries if you wish.
Mainecoons Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 Just made the mistake of ordering a burger at 60's in Paradise. Ordered media rosa, got cooked to death. Ordered cheese for 10 pesos, got a paper thin slice of crappy American cheese. Ordered fries, got dried out stale tasting as though they were cooked in old oil The "little Richard" was little alright, you get a bigger burger at McDonalds and it tastes better too. I went there because they used to have a really decent big burger. It looks like this place has decided to specialize in cooking diet food, not real American style burgers. Can't comment on the diet stuff but if you want a real burger, go someplace else.
artsnob Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 Our gang has quit going to 60"s in Paradise along time ago, because of overcooked tasteless burgers,,,The early bird Cafe, Ric used to own 60"s, and many others, to many to mention here, are all better
OhioDan Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Although I was not a fan of this place at first, I have since changed my mind. I think the burgur at MAGANA is better than any I have had so far at Lakeside. It is big, not too fatty and the fries are good. Just a note of warning, if you don't want cheese and/or bacon tell them so since it comes with both.
