maryannborman Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 I need some recommendations for car insurance that has a reliable responsive Lakeside representative for a company that provides good service. We have had HDI Seguros for the past four years since we moved here from the US. Unfortunately, we recently we hit by a propane gas truck with major damage to our car.. The other party was completely to blame. While we did not have to pay anything to have our car repaired the entire incident was a fiasco from the adjuster we had to wait hours for, to the quality of the repair worksmanhip and the incompetent handling of the claim. Our native English speaker broker here at Lakeside could not even bother to respond to our inquiries. I have been told that if we do not renew with HDI none of the repair work will be waranteed. We pay close to $400 a year for our current insurnce. Unfortunately it is due for renewal next week Any recommendations will be appreciated.
JayBearII Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 Well, I guess you are stuck--if you are sure the repair work will not be warranteed unless you renew. I have used Parker Ins for 7 years and altho we have been thru some interesting times following our van being totaled some years ago, I have great faith in them and they have been very supportive. They always pay attention to feedback, and they always try to find the best car insurance available IMO.
Bourbonman Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 Your agent only writes the policy. Adjusters have to come from Guadalajara, & that takes time. Your agent will probably write Qualitas Segura. They have an office in Chapala on the west side as you go toward Soriana
Sandrita Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 I would suggest you contact Bellon Insurance; they are almost across the street from Super Lake in San Antonio. I am using them to write my auto policy for my Mexican plated car with the insurance carrier being Qualitas. I have been very pleased with their customer service. Buena suerte.
holdrja Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 BTW: Qualitas in Chapala does NOT seem to write policies for NOB-plated vehicles. We were shopping around for new policies for our two cars, went to that Qualitas office and asked, in fluent Spanish, for a quote for the two cars. The rep was very confused because we did not have Mexican plated cars; she said that she would have to speak to Mexico City HQ about a quote for a non-Mexican plated vehicle. We left here our phone numbers and email address; never heard back from her. We got estimates from Jesus Tejada, the office in Laguna Centro across from Walmart, and Bellon. Bellon was by far the most reasonable of the 3; and was responsive to emails, even on a Sunday. So, we got our policy from Bellon. But, for the OP's question, we do not have any experience (thankfully) with well how a claim is handled.
Spot Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 We just changed from Jesus T. to Qualitas because Jesus' price just kept going up so much every year.
traderspoc Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 I am also looking to get insurance for my Mexican plated car, when I renew price is not my issue, I am more concerned with a company that responds and covers claims. would like to know which insurance company had the best history of paying claims.
sm1mex Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 Bellon insurance, 766-5151, across the street from Deli 8 and Handy Mail. We got a better policy this year for 2000 pesos less than Jesus quoted us.
simpsca Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 Has anyone had any claims experience with Bellon and/or any specific auto insurers? I'm up for renewal in Oct. and have HDI and would like to switch based on what I've read.
elpind Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 My two cents on insurance agents. I was in the auto insurance, claims, business for eight years prior to retiring. I know this is Mexico and Mexico is different but.... It is not the agent that makes an insurance company good, it is, as the poster are referring to above, the results of the claim once one is made. I would like to hear from people who have made claims and what there experience was. Also the name of the underwriter of the policy is also important. Thanks for the information as, hopefully, I will be needing a Mexico Insurance policy for my nationalized car.
Bourbonman Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 I have had claims with Qualitas. Very satisfied ! professional & responses on questions very good. I continue and is written with Lewis & Lewis WWW.MEXICANAUTOINSURANCE.COM Their rates also include AUSA Tourist Travel assistance
sm1mex Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 I have had multiple, multiple medical claims with Bellon insurance for life threatening medical problems to the tune of $150,000.00 U.S. They have processed all of my claims immediately and Met Life has deposited my reimbursement into my bank if I paid for something out of pocket, or they have paid directo to the Drs. and the hospitals for major surgeries. I have multiple conditions and Bellon has handled them all immediately. They have gone to the hospital with me, checked me in and checked me out. They also visited me 1-2 times every day while I was in the hospitals. they are the best and have a store front right here in Ajijic.
Bourbonman Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 Was this for car insurance or health insurance, and what company was the car insurance with?
All Day Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 I would suggest you contact Bellon Insurance; they are almost across the street from Super Lake in San Antonio. I am using them to write my auto policy for my Mexican plated car with the insurance carrier being Qualitas. I have been very pleased with their customer service. Buena suerte. Where is Bell on located?
cedros Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Where is Bell on located? In San Antonio across the carretera from Deli 8 and Handy Mail on the mountain side. 766 5151
sm1mex Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 My claims were for medical with Metlife through Bellon agency. However I switched to Bellon for my car insurance as I got a better policy for 2000 pesos less than I paid last year with another agent. I have not any car claims, but I am also with Qualitas.
lcscats Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 BTW: Qualitas in Chapala does NOT seem to write policies for NOB-plated vehicles. Go to Lewis and Lewis online out of LA. They will give you a Qualitas policy written in English and one in Spanish for your Gringo plated vehicle.
elehne1 Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 If the insurance is for a non-Mexico plated vehicle, you can also go to www.LakeChapalaInsurance.com and choose the coverage desired, company, pay and print the policy from home. Only A rated carriers are used and local adjusters respond to claims.
khof Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 I too am a fan of Bellon insurance. I have my cars insured with them. Have not had a claim, but Claude made sure I understood what to do if there is an accident. They have English speakers in the office. Phone 376 766 5151 or claude@bellon.com.mx
maryannborman Posted June 22, 2013 Author Report Posted June 22, 2013 Thank you all for your input. From everything I have learned so far, HDI has lived up to their payment claims. However, I have decided that It really is the choice of who does the car repair in Guad of the four groups they give you from which to choose .No one gives you info on them so its the luck of the draw. We choose one called Montecarlo.
ga356 Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 I'm with Lewis & Lewis and am in the process of nationalizing my USA-plated car. Can anyone tell me if L&L will cover a car that has been nationalized? The answer should be "yes" since Quaitas underwrites L&L policies, but I don't know this for sure. Thanks in advance, GA
