FCM Dog Show at Tobolandia this weekend, Thurs-Sun

There is a Federación Canófila Méxicana-sanctioned Dog Show this weekend at Tobolandia, Thursday through Sunday, May 23-26. (FCM is basically the Mexican version of the AKC or CKC.) Typically the shows attract around 300 or so purebred dogs from all over Mexico. Usually the competitions begin around 10am and go through the afternoon. I hope (I really hope) that it will be held on the northern end of the Tobolandia grounds - where the Chili Cookoff was this year with the shade and grass - rather than in the parking lot. Free to the public with lots of great dogs to see, and also tons of dog-related stuff for sale at vendor booths. Bringing your own folding chair is a great idea if you plan on staying a while as usually seats are in short supply.

Hi, is this the water park at east end of carretera?

Hi I went there this morning at 10:30 and there was only one other car in the parking lot. I assume that the show people park up top. It is not free. They are charging 60 or 70 pesos to get in. I decided not to go in because I had no idea how many show dogs were actually up there. I would be interested in hearing from others who actually went in.

A friend and I also were going to the Dog Show. We left when they wanted us to buy a ticket. Very few cars. We had a good time last year at the show. Too bad about the price.

Wow the Guad Reporter said it was free, someone should take the paper with them.

Yes, they are charging $60 to the public to get in. Lame.

There are about 300 dogs total in the show, with a huge number of English Bulldogs and Boxers.

Thanks for the heads up, Travis.

tickets probably cover the overhead expenses, which are considerable.

Dog shows are a great people watching scene. ;)

Can anyone who has gone this year tell me if there is much in the way of vendors of dog stuff?

There is almost nothing in the way of vendor booths selling dog related stuff. Normally, these shows have all kinds of vendors with booths set up selling everything from different kinds of dog food, to grooming supplies, to toys, to dog crates and beds to anything else you can imagine. That is what usually pays for the overhead - the sponsors and vendors - but this show has very few.

This show wasn't very well organized. It was originally going to be held in the Primavera Forest outside of Guadalajara, and the Tobolandia venue wasn't even known until a couple of weeks ago. That confusion probably made it difficult to line up sponsors.

That's my best guess as to why they have to charge the $60 MXN to try to recoup some of the overhead. The shows are normally free.

Still, there are lots of great dogs to see if you're willing to pay the admission. And at least today's judge chose the best looking English Bull Terrier. B)

Friend and I went today and stayed the entire day, it was $60p per person to get in. Beer is only 15P. I even knew one of the judges who lives here locally.

It was am awesome day and would go again.

The only let down was there was no Dalmatians!

I have a bunch of questions! I am not currently in Mexico so my questions are not specifically about this show but about FCM shows in general.

Is this a single, multi-day, all breed show or is it a cluster of all breed shows?

Are/were there any specialties or supported entries? Any such thing in FCM?

Is the format for breed judging (sex and age divisions) similar to AKC?

Are there many expats participating?

Are there any activities other than Conformation?

Thanks for any info.

Yes, and yes. This show was all breeds, but sometimes there are specialties, depending on popularity.

Storm coming and my internet is about to go out. (Yay!....maybe more rain! Oooooh....I hear hail!)

Is obedience offered in Mexico? I have a little lap doggy now (who has ME trained) but I used to compete in obedience with my GSD's in years past in the states. I would love to get involved in obedience down there if it is offered.

Yes there were 2 gringa ladies that showed their dogs who I know 1 lives here.
