lindadunn Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Just saw a forecast for Chapala on Weather Bug that says there may be rain showers on Saturday night and Monday. Wouldn't that be great news! The rainbirds have been singing away for over a week now. Sure seems too early.............but what a relief it would be! Maybe it has something to do with the hurricane brewing off the coast of Acapulco.
El Saltos Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 I seriously doubt it. Rains come in June every year. And every year someone says they'll be early this year!
johanson Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Looking at the local www.chapalaweather.net weather site, it doesn't show much chance of rain in May (records, last 4 years). But it sure would be nice if the rains started earlier than usual and if there was more volume (not all at once, mind you) over the summer months. It would be nice to be able to see the lake significantly higher by the end of the rainy season this year. I haven't seen the lake this low since about 9 years ago.
Intercasa Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Sprinkles in Guadalajara late this afternoon
Bunyan Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Sprinkles in Guadalajara the day I left, May 1.
Bourbonman Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 No sprinkles where I live in Tlaquepaque yet, but a friend said that a little rain across the lake in San luis Soyotlan
ichbinsaege Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Around 8pm tonight when I was out walking in Chapala, there were sprinkles. The rainbirds have been making a racket for weeks now, not just this last week.
hensley Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 We always get a little teaser in May then the rains come in June.

Lake height is determined much more by the dams and such rather than rainfall here according to Todd lake stuff I read.
holdrja Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Sprinkles in Hacienda La Labor at 7:30 last night. What a tease! Just in time for their one day a year fiesta patronal.
Arti Riberas Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 I'm guessing rains begin in earnest as always around June 12 give or take a few days on either side. How's that for definition?
bmh Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 This year the rain came early in Chiapas, about a month early so who knows it may come early here too.
johanson Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Lake height is determined much more by the dams and such rather than rainfall here according to Todd lake stuff I read. Very good point (LCScats). I too have learned a lot from Dr. Todd. I'm just hoping that with even more rain than normal, we will somehow get more water for the Lake I hope, I hope, I hope
LaChula Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Lake height is determined much more by the dams and such rather than rainfall here according to Todd lake stuff I read. Correct. There are clandestine pumps sucking up water all along the lake for farming purposes. And, the dams have not been releasing the required water for the lake. Only the federal gov't can force meaningful change.
bwhite1948 Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Lake height is determined much more by the dams and such rather than rainfall here according to Todd lake stuff I read. Yes, but the more rainfall in the entire region, the more likely it is that the dams up-river will be opened to release excess water to our Lake. The lake is down quite dramatically and I'm hoping for a whopper of a rainy season.
giltner68 Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 No rain, the dew points are easily 30 degrees apart, patience, this is MX, all things come in time.
sambrit10 Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 It rained last year at this time, too. I remember because we were visiting here for three weeks in May and it rained several times, although I use the word "rain" loosely -- there was just enough moisture to wet the ground and make everything smell nice. This year we're living here and really looking forward to our first rainy season!
