FHBOY Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 Recently a long time poster here quit and one of the reasons cited was incivility and lack of courtesy. I have only really been active here for a few months (recently had my status changes from Newbie to the next level up!). I must take issue with it. I find that the majority of the posts here are civil and courteous as compared with other boards I have been involved with or monitored even here at Lakeside, [let's not talk mainstream news boards in the USA.]. It seems, here, there are a group of adults who know that disagreements do not have to devolve into personalities and that it is OK to disagree as long as you realize that you are going to have to come around this way again. There will always be those who have bone to pick, or itching for a fight...but it seems we all take care of that problem very well. I find the Mods now becoming a bit more hands-off, which is good and letting the participants monitor themselves. I will not always agree with you, but defend to the death your right to say what you feel. And if I don't agree with you about a certain issue, it doesn't mean I totally disagree or dislike you. Maturity breeds good argumentation, as long as it stays civil, which the majority of the threads here do. We deserve a self congratulatory pat on the back for the level this board is at.
tomgates Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Well, anybody can pick up their marbles and go home whenever they want to. Maybe it's good to move on sometimes. Patti
moderator-2 Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 We are going to continue to be very firm about personal attacks. There's another local board here that really demonstrates why this is necessary and desirable. We don't want to go there. We do our best, we're just volunteers here.
jguerin Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Always good in life to be courteous and civil, treat others the way you want to be treat.
