TexasRanger Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Hi All Whenever I have a good experience with a service provider I like to share. I do this as when I first moved here I really found great information on this board which helped to point me in the right direction when looking for services. Experiences are personal but as I am a tough critic I ussually feel confident when making a recomendation or I simply do not do it. For the last few weeks I have been dealing with Dr. Hernadez at Chapala Med. I dont get ill very often however since Easter had really been feeling under the weather with some strange symptoms. I am very impressed with Dr. Hernadez and his clinic. First the clinic is modern, well equipped and clean. American/Canadian Standard of the expectation of a clinic. Dr Hernadez is young ( not Doogie Houzer young) but young enough to be up to date on new treatment options. He is from Chicago having practiced there so conversations in english are smooth and easy. What impressed me the most is his ability to truly listen and ask those questions that needed to be asked. As patients I think we are all guilty of tending to generalize or forget when we finally get in front of a Dr. That is an ability I think we all appreciate in any practioner tending to our needs. In my case through the right diagnostics, and since we pay for them it is great to not have to worry about hit or miss, a diagnosis and a good treatment plan is in place. I believe Chapalmed is a great asset to our medical community and if you are looking for a new Dr you may want to give him a try. His rates are reasonable, he believes in the standard of excellent medical care and it shows in his clinic. He also does house calls if you are not mobile enough to get into the clinic. Their website is chapalamed.com Hope this is helpful info for anyone looking for a recomendation on good medical care. Cheers!
bournemouth Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 It would be helpful if you could give us a street address and phone number for Dr. Hernandez - TIA.
TexasRanger Posted April 29, 2013 Author Report Posted April 29, 2013 If you go to the website which I provided above www.chapalamed.com you will find all kinds of info on the clinic as well as numbers and location. I found the website really informative prior to booking my appointment. In the meantime happy to provide the number 376-765-7777 address is Hildago #293- 45900 Chapala
contrarian Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Thanks for recommending Dr. Hernandez. Positive reviews of doctors here, based on someone's personal experience, are invaluable. For our part, until circumstances dictate otherwise, my wife and I will stay with Dr. Gerardo Leon, whose quick thinking two years ago probably saved my wife's life. But I repeat: You are performing a public service by bringing competent new doctors to the attention of the community.

This is an importan issue for Canadians who can deduct medical expenses when filing taxes, also for people who have insurance coverage.
kbleitch Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 I've not been to see him yet, but I'm betting 100% that he does this automatically as he also uses electronic record keeping in his practice. Additionally, I've never found this to be a problem when seeing a doc. I just always request it.
Floradude Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 I will stay with Dr. Gerardo Leon Dr. Gerado Leon is a excellent surgeon in GDL. Is this who you meant?
contrarian Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 This Dr. Leon is located in Ajijic, not Guadalajara.
TexasRanger Posted April 29, 2013 Author Report Posted April 29, 2013 Does this Doctor issue official receipts for his services? This is an importan issue for Canadians who can deduct medical expenses when filing taxes, also for people who have insurance coverage. Yes he gives official receipts.
Dr.Santiago Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Wow. I'm so humbled. Thank you for the acknowledgement(s). I strive to be an excellent physician who happens to be a native English speaker and whom provides excellent service. As far as those "official" receipts are concerned, I have only been in practice a few short months here. Getting a NOTA vs. FACTURA has been a bit confusing for me. Thanks to SPENCER he has cleared all this up and I will be issuing my own FACTURAS very soon. I just hate the thought of personally standing in line at a Govt. office at 8 am in GDL. But I guess thats what it takes. And yes, I do use an EMR(Electronic Medical Records) system that is U.S. based and uses U.S. ICD-9 codes so that billing and reimbursement for patients will be easy. Also using this system makes it easy to coordinate with my patients physicians whom are NOB. In regards to the recommendations to other physicians, if you have found a physician whom you have built a good repoire with as well as trust in his/her knowledge and skills it may be a good idea to stay with them. I don't want to be the "FLAVOR of the MONTH" so to speak and I may not be the right fit for everybody. It all comes down to what you are looking for in a physician. Thanks again. I will strive to live up to this and other recommendations.
beckster Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 My husband and I are coming to Chapala on Saturday to spend next week exploring the area to consider retiring there. We both have some health concerns and were hoping to make an appointment to meet with a doctor there next week to discuss long-term treatment options/availability there. Does anybody know of an English-speaking oncologist/hematologist who sees patients in the area? I would like to arrange something in advance since our time there is so limited on this trip.
kbleitch Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 If you go to the website for Dr. Hernandez chapalamed.com at the top right of the home page, there is a tab which says "Medical Tourism and Specialist Referral Services." He does list oncology among the network of specialists with whom he works. Dr. Hernandez is in Chapala and I'm guessing most of the specialists with whom he works are in Guadalajara. You may want to contact Dr. Hernandez today via email or phone. He does list a US number on his site: 312-912-9087.
RVGRINGO Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 There is an excellent oncologist, with perfect English, Dr. Arch, in the medical tower at Hospital Angeles del Carmen: Dr. Jorge Emilio Arch Ferrrer ======= jorge_arch@unidaddecancerologia.com Torre de Especialidades Angeles Tarascos 3473, Rinconada Santa Rita
beckster Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 kbleitch"at the top right of the home page, there is a tab which says "Medical Tourism and Specialist Referral Services." Thank you for your response. I am sorry, but I don't see a tab on the chapalamed.com site. Am I just missing it or has it been removed?
beckster Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 RVGRINGO - "Dr. Jorge Emilio Arch Ferrrer ======= jorge_arch@unidaddecancerologia.com" Thanks for your response. I did try to email this doctor, but mail was returned. Do you see anything possibly incorrect about the address?
Bandol Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 The e-mail address I have for Dr. Jorge Arch is dr.jorge.arch@gmail.com. He is an outstanding surgeon and an extremely nice man. He is also head of the robotic surgical unit at Puerto de Hierro.
lakeheron Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 There is an excellent oncologist, with perfect English, Dr. Arch, in the medical tower at Hospital Angeles del Carmen: Dr. Jorge Emilio Arch Ferrrer ======= jorge_arch@unidaddecancerologia.com Torre de Especialidades Angeles Tarascos 3473, Rinconada Santa Rita Dr. Arch is a surgeon who does do surgery on many types of cancer but he is not an oncologist. He can recommend an oncologist to you. My husband used Dr. J. Francisco Alexander, who is considered among the best oncs in Guad, but I now have my doubts about his expertise. I have heard Hospital San Javier has a very good oncology department and treatment center.
Dr.Santiago Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 My husband and I are coming to Chapala on Saturday to spend next week exploring the area to consider retiring there. I have an excellent Surgical Oncologist in the network of doctors I refer to. I personally screen the specialists I refer to and make sure that they are up to the standards with specialists whom I've worked with NOB. I believe that most if not all of the doctors I have referred to like my TEAM approach and treat the PATIENT not just the disease within the specialty they are trained in. Have a pleasant stay while you are down here.
garmemorial Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 I will also stay with Dr. Leon. Nine years and never missed a diagnoses.
Bandol Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 I agree with lakeheron's doubts about the oncologist Dr. Alexander. Personally I would ask Dr. Arch for a referral.
Wookie Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Well you can blow me over with a feather. Dr. Arch, along with a plastic surgeon operated on my last August. I feel very foolish because he was recommended to me as an oncologist (because I needed one) and he treated me and operated on me giving me the very distinct impression that he was one! He comes to Maskaras Clinic on some Saturdays to see his patients here at Lakeside.
Bandol Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Dr. Arch has operated for countless cancer-related conditions in addition to being a general surgeon. There is no-one better.
