ChrisB Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I painstakingly filled out the formato de queja to complain to the municipal and when I hit send it kept insisting that the security code was wrong even thought it was right. GRRRR Just the usual it is there but it doesn't work. So I will haul my butt to Chapala Monday, waste my time finding the whomever is in charge of the new parking stuff and tell him I will not pay the ticket given to me when I parked behind two cars on Hidalgo. They were illeagally parked in the handicapped spaces (no plate, placards etc) I had my handicapped placard on the mirror. When I pointed out to the ticket giver that the two cars in the handicapped space were not ticketed and they didn't belong there and I would have parked there if they were not there and so on and so on. He just smirked and handed me the ticket. Another day in Mexico dealing with :() bureaucracy.
gary c. Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 If it was a matter of not getting a parking meter slip, I believe you have to pay to park even when you have a handicapped sticker. At least that's been my experience. I foolishly didn't read the small print on the handicap sign; it states that you need to get a sticker from the meter. Now what was frustrating is how far away the meter was from the handicap parking space. Having failed to read this, I was ticketed. Paid it that day and got it reduced by 50%. Carol
The world's best climate Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 This is México!! take it or leave it! This is the way Mexico deals with parking matters! Why non-mexicans want to change the way this Country do things? grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
satnrose Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 The way I read the first two posts, there was no suggestion that anyone was trying to change anything. While sympathetic to the inconveniences, I thought both descriptions of the situations were amusing.
Shira Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 If you had been in Chris's shoes needing to park and couldn't because two inconsiderate and illegal parkers had taken the handicapped spots you would not find this amusing.
chapalafan Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 What might be amusing is watching when the OP tells those in charge who to give tickets to and that she will not pay the ticket she received. We have been given plenty of notice about the parking meters and how the process works. We have to take the responsibility for following the rules. Just because it appears others do not do the right thing does not mean we should follow suit and think it is OK.
ichbinsaege Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I really don't understand why the parking pay box situation is such a huge deal. Cities I lived in NOB had similar ones, often with the pay boxes being even fewer and further in between! And the cost is only 1peso for 10 minutes.
chapalafan Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I am with you saege. The only reason I can imagine that people are upset by the meters is that the meters are something they consider an inconvenience and it is not under their control. And all over six pesos an hour.
LaChula Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I didn"t get the impression th at Chris was complaining about the meters or the cost. when someone has difficulty walking, a matter of 2 cars in the reserved for handicapped should be taken seriously.
Mainecoons Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 This country just isn't handicapped friendly at this point. It is unfortunate but it is reality.

I wrote that I was amused by "the description" of the situation. Chris, if you took it the same was as Shira, my apologies. Simply put, I enjoyed your writing style.

ichbinsaege Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 But doesn't it say on the machine that the minimun is 2 pesos? I have no idea, as I've only paid for longer amounts of time. What I was saying is that 1 peso or roughly 8 cents USD, for a ten minute increment is not a massive amount to pay. I know the OP was talking about the spaces being occupied. I'm not so sure most of the handicapped spots here are actually very handicap accessible in the first place. Might be just as easy to park closer to the pay meter box, at least along Hidalgo. I am just mildly amused at how bent out of shape people are getting over having to pay for parking, or walk a little further to park for free (those with walking problems aside, I do understand how hard that can be). This area is not exactly a hotbed of easy walking sidewalks, and I think most people knew that before they moved down here. That is not something bound to change overnight. And even when they do change and fix up the sidewalks, people still complain. Madero is now very nice to walk on, but I still hear people complain about it.

Some people find the parking pay situation annoying, because they come to Mexico, waiting that for being outsiders they will not be bothered in any way....
ChrisB Posted April 6, 2013 Author Report Posted April 6, 2013 Since the spaces were occupied I did not read the "fine print" on the signs. If what a previous poster said was true then I would have had to pay anyway. If that is the case then I will just go pay the ticket. Although making handicapped parkers pay is bit odd. Where exactly are the places you go to get the stickers? In the mean time I will just avoid shopping in Chapala, not my loss.

Carol I am sorry that some of you took my comment as a complaint. I really wasn't complaining, just suggesting something to the first post. We've just learned to park close to the parking meters and not worry about parking where there is a handicapped space. It's not been a big deal, but it is something that in any city any where, the planners could take into consideration. The cost of the meters is low and hopefully will help the government collect a little more money. Carol
