Hotel recommendations between Mazatlán and Navolato

Recommended Posts

Heading north in a few weeks and want to get past Mazatlán on day one, but don't think we can make it to Navolato. Anyone have a hotel recommendation between those two places?

Also, those of you that drive to Navolato in one day, is it about an 8-hour drive?

I think there are several reasons you are not getting any replies.

1. Why stop in Novolato? It's off the highway in an area known to have cartel issues (Culiacan)

2. Culiacan (which I think would be the exit you would use off Highway 15 to go to Novolato) is only 125 miles north of Mazatlan. What's the point of stopping there overnight?

Maybe you meant Novavoa instead of Novolato? That would be about 6.5 hours north of Mazatlan.

In any event, we drove Ajijic to Mazatlan to San Carlos to Phoenix. Round trip, twice. No part of that route was too long or strenuous. And we only had one driver since I do not drive in Mexico and the dog doesn't have a license.

If you mean Navajoa then it is less than 8 hrs from Mazatlan and obvious choice for many of us. I do not know where Navolato is.

Navolata is a bit west of Culiacan. The OP may need a map. I think they are saying they want to get farther than Mazatlan. Culiacan or a small place before or after Culiacan is the obvious choice. If they mean Navojoa it is much too far for one day. As pointed out-why Navolata. Culiacan would be better. I wouldn't worry about cartels.

Depending where you are starting from Navolata is probably more like 11 hours.

I agree with the poster that because of the frequent cartel activity in that area is maybe why you are not getting any direct and solid advice.

You didn't think Los Mochis was good advice?

Not good advice. Too far for one days travel.

It's certainly possible to drive from Ajijic to Navojoa in one day. We've done it a couple of times....about 11 hours with a short lunch stop and a couple of fuel stops.

My map says that is a 15 hour drive.

No, we've done it in eleven or twelve hours, driving the speed limit and stopping often. Then you cross a time zone and gain an hour. In April, if we leave at here at sunrise we can get there before sunset. It's a long day, but we can get to my partner's parents' retirement home in Phoenix around 2 pm the following day.

We've made it all the way to San Carlos in 13.5 hours, including a stop for a meal in Los Mochis plus gas/bathroom stops - but only in the summer with long daylight hours.
