Travis Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 Can anyone give me an idea what the average hourly rate might be for a Spanish Tutor locally? Thanks.
hensley Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 We paid $20p per person per 1 1/2 hours, but that was years ago.
Travis Posted May 27, 2012 Author Report Posted May 27, 2012 Thanks exyyz and hensley. Haha. So somewhere between $20 and $175 pesos per hour. If I wasn't clear, this is for one-to-one tutoring, so the $20 peso number doesn't really apply. It's not a group situation. I think I'll call a few local instructors and see what they charge. The reason I need to know is I want to give my current instructor a raise!
exyyz Posted May 27, 2012 Report Posted May 27, 2012 The 175 per hour was for a private lesson. Your current instructor is Gabriel?
Mainecoons Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 Later, we were paying the same tutor Hensley is writing about 100 pesos for two of us for an hour. She uses Warren Hardy so you have to have the books and they aren't cheap.
Rony Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 OMG, .... I was in the teaching business here and the mentioned prices are completely ridiculous. Believe me..... in the Lakeside Area, 60 pesos an hour (one on one, private) is a decent and normal price (Guadajajara up to 100 pesos).
Irish Gal Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 I almost always agree with your postings elbelgicano but this is one I can't agree with. Sixty pesos converts to about $4.21!! That's a ridiculously low hourly rate to pay for a one hour private lesson, IMO.
Rony Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Hi Irish girl, When I taught French in Guadalajara, Proulex university in Guadalajara, paid me 55 pesos an hour. Now, that was 8 years ago and my guess... that could be around 75 or 80 now. But the rates in Guadalajara are a lot higher. It is the same for English teachers there. Schools like Quick Learning (in Guad) pay even less (an hour that is). ICI, another language school apparently pays 100 pesos an hour, but again that is the big city where the pay is always a lot higher. Another way to see this.... if a teacher should work 30 hours a week, that would make him earn (with the 60 pesos an hour) 7600 pesos a month, about the average pay for a teacher in the Lakeside area. Now, don't get me wrong.... if people decide to pay more, very well, .... even better for the teacher. I am just saying with my personal experience and also my employment project, I see things differently. Best greetings, Rony
