Chandler Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I've often wondered if the various Spanish words that mean "Become" have subtle distinctions that I have missed. Ponerse, convertirse, volverse are a few. Doesn't anyone out there have a good way to explain this???? Thanks
RVGRINGO Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Ponerse de chofer = to become a driver by taking a job as a chaufeur, for the first time. Ponerse enfermo = to become ill. Convertirse = to become something else; to change from one thing to another as in job or religion, etc. Volverse = to become something by returning to it. To become consious by regaining consiousness, to become again, etc. Thanks for the lesson, you made me get out the big dictionary. Some of these have half a page of explanations and other meanings.
