How many times per month do you eat out?

How much do you usually spend on average per person on each meal?

We eat out at least one meal a day. Sometimes two. I'd guess average meals out per month is about 35. Average cost....anywhere from 21 pesos for a torta (at the Torta Ahogada place on Colon, just south of the Ajijic Plaza) to a splurge meal at Number 4.

As far as cost for a meal, should wine and other beverages be factored in? That can really run up a tab, especially at places where the vino is up to 40-45 pesos per glass.

I suggest amending this poll to include a much lower price range (i.e. 25 and 50 pesos per person) if you're interested in capturing the full range of options. I don't doubt that the vast majority of participants on this board (and the gringo community in general) eat mostly at the restaurants you included in your recent poll and thus pay these kinds of prices, but there are more than a few of us who eat local food at local restaurants and pay far less per meal. Our "dinner group" goes out together once a week and never spends more than 40 pesos per person - meaning we eat fabulous tacos, or tamales at the Hole in the Wall, or gorditas from the great stand that does a booming business at all hours.

Nothing against a great steak at Tango or fabulous seafood at Tabarka, but for us those are special occasion places. We can - and do - eat lunch out every day of the week for less than what we'd spend on a main course each at one of those places.

I agree!

When we are visiting different areas, we like to find the joints that have good local fare.

We can have steak and shrimp when we are at home anytime!

Please list your favorite joint and what you like to eat at that place and the price you pay.

I'm hungry for a Chile Relenos!!!!

We just came home from eating out: Tamales, empenadas & beer for two = 70 pesos or 35 pesos per person, and we're full! You guessed it; The Hole in the Wall.

John,

Take your dinner group to 'The Hole in the Wall' some Monday night at 5:30 and experience the real Mexico.

That will NEVER happen. Not enough of them like Mexican food. We ARE Americans and as such like American and Continental food. Just because a few of you eat Mexican food, you think everyone should. That is not the case. When I smell Mexican food, it makes me sick to my stomach. I am extremely fussy about what I eat. I cannot eat anything remotely spicy.

That's just the way I am. Everyone is different. I'm sure if I took a poll on types of food people like American and Continental would easily win over Mexican by 20 to 1.

I must add this to my vote.

We used to eat out only 5 or 6 times a month. Now with the Lakeside coupon book, we can afford to eat out a few times more a month, while still paying out the same amount as before.

some restaurants have specials like buy one, get one free. This is great for us as a couple. but there are also many places with 10% to 15% off that even single people can use.

After only using the book 5 times, we more than had our money back for the cost of the book. and there are hundreds of coupons in the book. (not just for restaurants, but restaurants make up the greater portion of the book.

John, I respect your dislike for Mexican food. Don't you think, though, that you should disqualify yourself as a food critic here if you don't like the local cuisine?

Luisa - what a wonderful idea - perhaps that way we would be spared the endless polls - the OP's fixation on food and where we all eat seems a little strange to me - but then, we are all different.
