Although some will tell you that medical care here is very inexpensive and it is compared to USA prices, it's not all inexpensive. If you need medical tests like an MRI, or you fall and break your leg, no big deal. But here are two examples from my friends I can tell you about so you can think about how you would pay for them. One friend suddenly needed a Stent last year. The cost was $354,935 pesos, or $18,150 USD at today's rate. Five years ago or more another friend was fortunate to survive an aneurysm, but had no insurance. She was a snowbird. She had several surgeries, spent weeks in intensive care at one of the top hospitals in Guadalajara, then weeks in the regular rooms. Then needed 24/7 care at home for weeks until she could look after herself again. She told me back then it all cost her almost $500,000 Canadian dollars. Imagine what it would be now in 2024. So think hard about how you'll handle your health care. Some people here use the address of a family member in the United States to fool their health care insurers into thinking they live there, when they actually live here full time. I call that insurance fraud, would you?
