Dear Canadians,

You are receiving this email because you are registered with the Government of Canada's Registration of Canadians Abroad service. Please share the following important information with other Canadian nationals in your area.

Presidential elections for Mexico are scheduled to take place on July 1st, 2018. Elections for Deputies, Senators and nine Governors will also take place on the same day, making it the largest general elections in the history of the country.

Canadians residing in or travelling in Mexico are advised to exercise a high degree of caution in the weeks leading to and following the elections.

Canadians are strongly advised to avoid political gatherings and demonstrations. Please be aware that the Mexican Constitution prohibits foreigners to take part in the country’s political affairs. Foreigners participating in political demonstrations and gatherings could be detained and deported.

We encourage you to stay connected to the latest travel advice and advisories at https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/mexico, also available via our mobile Travel smart application (https://travel.gc.ca/mobile) and our RSS feeds (https://travel.gc.ca/rss).  You can also follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/travelGoC and www.twitter.com/CanEmbMexico or find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/travelGoC and www.facebook.com/CanadainMexico
