camillenparadise
Is it available in Mexico? Need to paint my canaries' cage and can't expose them to lead. Thanks for any info.
Tiny
You have more worries than just lead. "Does your bird cage need a new paint job? Not sure what kind of paint to buy? Using conventional paints releases toxic VOCs that may pose health risks to your bird. " http://www.ecospaints.net/blog/2014/07/safely-painting-bird-cage-easier-think/ Bigger pet stores may have an idea. Check Mercado Libre.
camillenparadise
Thanks, Tiny, but apparently Ecos is not available in Mexico, and not on ebay. Any other ideas?
Tiny
All I have found is that you want a zero-VOC paint. Maybe a paint store can help you. I'll keep looking.

mudgirl
Interesting thing I read about paint, which seems counterintuitive. Those people who are highly allergic to almost everything have to live in homes where the wall paint is oil-based. Even thought those paints have intense fumes when wet, when they dry, they become inert, whereas acrylic/latex paints continue to gas off forever. tomgates
They haven't used lead in any paint in many decades.

camillenparadise
Got one of those for home. What I need to do is revive a smaller one for our annual housesitting at the Lake. And October is still available.....
CHILLIN
I scoured that Ecos website but it is very evasive. I think they are talking about mineral paint, as pioneered by Kiem in Germany. Very watery, unless they they thicken with amorphous silica (also natural). Requires alkaline resistant pigments, of which I have A large selection
camillenparadise
Now after further noodling around, I see that Home Depot claims to sell only non-lead, non-voc spray paint. I'll have to go into the store nearby with my magnifying glass to learn more. I just want to get this project underway in case off-gassing is a concern. My canary boys are such a pleasure!
