Hotels in Puebla

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Finsa.  It was nice with a decent restaurant for breakfast inside and a nice Angus Butcher House Restaurant on the same property.  It is a little ways from downtown but closer to the airport.  I have also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express which was also nice and closer to downtown.  I would steer you away from the Best Western Plus Puebla.

If you are spending time in other areas around Puebla, in San Martin Texmelucan I highly recommend Hotel Imperial.  In downtown Tlaxcala, I recommend Hotel Posada San Francisco Tlaxcala, right on the center square.  Another hotel a bit North of Tlaxcala, close to the road to Puebla is Mission Hotel Tlaxcala which is very nice as well.  I don't see it listed in Google maps but I found it's website: http://www.hotelesmision.com.mx/tlaxcala.php

PM me if you want more specific information.

We stayed here, but it's been about 6 years.  Location is excellent for walking around Puebla.  It's an architecturally interesting building, wasn't in tip-top shape, but we prefer that to pristine modern hotels, even if there are some kinks.  Their prices were very reasonable and the staff was pleasant.  The made to order breakfast was very good and served in a beautiful courtyard.

Here's link to tripadvisor for this property where you can read more recent reviews.

When we go through we stay at the hotels by the freeway like the Fiesta Inn , the Holiday Inn , the one.  There are several of those hotels right off the freeway near the freeway on  the westside accross from the WV plant. When we visit we stay at the Palam or another cute place in the antic district. There are lots of nice hotels in centro..

We stay away fro San Martin Texmulacan as they have nasty gangs and we sometimes arrive in Puebla at night.

If you want charming, historic, mid-downtown Puebla--in the antiques district--I'd pick El Mesón de la Sacristía.  A little funky, but more shabby-chic, and just delightful.  Courtyard restaurant for breakfast...

Even if you opt to stay elsewhere, do EAT there.  It's fabulous.  We ate there twice.

The OP didn't ask about food, but do not miss the taco arabes at Las Ranas downtown (ate there twice, too).  Here's a photo....mmmmmm.  I gained 5 pounds in 4 days in Puebla.

The architecture in Puebla is phenomenal (don't miss interior of Casa de Alfenique or exterior of Casa de Munecas), the inside of many churches or ex-conventors, the artist areas, the street of toads (calle de sapos).  There is a John Lennon plaque in the park adjacent to La Palma hotel.....ahhhh...Puebla.  Side trip to nearby Cholula s/b considered....especially tour of Los Remedios, and then San Gabriel convent,  and then the Pyramids.

If it wasn't so cold there in winters, I'd consider Puebla as a place to live full-time.
