bdmowers
Does anyone know the reason why there are no altars outside across from the presidencia or on Cinco de Mayo in Chapala this year?
Bisbee Gal
There were altars in/near City Hall. I had read that the 5 de Mayo street display had slowly dissipated and moved near to the malecon, city hall, church. In 2008-2012 we went to 5 de Mayo to see the altars. Why would you post this when it's quite obvious that you didn't go to Madero which had even more amazing alters than last year and they started working on them before dawn. Everything has moved to Madero. No mas Cinco de Mayo.
barrbower
Actually, they still had altars on Cinco de Mayo but fewer than in years past. The ones in front of the Presidencia and church are done by students who, as part of an assignment, choose a person to honor. This year we saw ones for Cleopatra, MLK, and others. The young folks who make them put in a lot of work and many dress up and wear appropriate make-up. The altars on Cinco de Mayo appear to be loved ones of the families who live on the street and seem more heartfelt. Both areas were a joy to experience. Remember that most are done for the evening of Nov. 2nd. Alan
adolphsj
Barrbower has it right on. Starting 3 yrs ago the Cinco de Mayo altars have diminished each year and the area in front of the church is the place to go, especially on Nov 2 starting 3-4 PM.
