I received an email headed INTERAC  e-transfer from cra systems saying they are sending me some $583 Cdn dollars. The sending email address appears to be artworks(aroba)garthhomersociety.org. The include a web site http://loginuser-cra-taxfrom-cra.

I am a non resident of Canada and do not submit tax forms so have no idea why they would be sending me a refund. Is there any way I can check if this is a scam? Have any other Canadians received anything similar?

I got one a few weeks ago offering me 423 dollars   I am also a non resident so I do not file annually.   The clue for me was that they asked for my SS number  CRS  knows your SS #  not normally your email address.

Yes I also received one and I realized it was a scam. See the CRA website re these types of messages

Canada also does not use SSNs... we have SINs (Social Insurance Numbers). CRA sends letters by snail-mail only for initial contact. And everything is bilingual, French and English, including links to their websites.

And when reporting links like "artworks(aroba)garthhomersociety.org", I would most definitely us the "@" symbol, in the hopes that the moron who sent you the scam will get indundated with clicks from robot webscanners. artworks@garthhomersociety.org

And just to continue the expose, all Canadian federal government websites end in .ca, not .org.

bennie gets like 3 every morning & 2 @ night. these are from various email combos. i press block. if i open by accident its the same oldsameold. "they" sometimes use my email address & i cant block myself. the machine can get mxed up. "paypal update your acct is locked" is a popular scam so is "your fedx package". it works for the scammers. go figure.
