I live in Chapala. This week I'm in Ottawa. On Tuesday, I attended my appointment at the Mexican Embassy, with my required paperwork...and walked out less than ONE HOUR later with my permanent visa!! The embassy staff were welcoming, positive and supportive. What an AMAZING experience! GRACIAS Mexico!!

Sparks is correct. You have a visa approval and must exchange (canje) it for the actual visa with INM in Mexico. See them within 30 days of crossing the border and take proof of residence address; ie: a CFE bill or comprobante de domocilio from city hall. The process may take up to a couple of months, so don‘t stray too far. INM will give you a paper for your tramite period, allowing you to travel within Mexico and to follow online the visa progress and your appointments with INM in Chapala.

Welcome to Mexico and congratulations. Thanks for sharing.

Mexico has to be one of the easiest countries in the world for an expat to live legally.

Viva Mexico
