mexicoblue
I need to take my KIA back to the U.S. to sell and I can get a 30-day registration, but how do I get a 30-day insurance policy to cover the trip back? Seems like everyone who has to return their car must deal with this issue? Thanks,
RVGRINGO
Your Mexican insurance should be in effect for the trip back. Once over the border, you will need a US policy. If the car is now illegal, you will also need a Retorno Seguro.
jrod
Our Mexican insurance with AXA covers us but only for $100,000K CSL. That's insufficient in the US. We take a short term policy with National Unity. You pay online with a cc, selecting your time period and coverage amounts, then print out your policy. Note the start and end times of the policy, tho: not 12:00 am to 12:00pm... And, if you need to use them again, your vehicle info is stored in your profile so you don't have to reenter it. bdlngton
If your car is not licensed currently in the US you will most likely not be able to get US insurance until it is. You might also need a US driver's license to get insurance, but I don't know that for sure. The one time I drove to the US I purchased a 6-month policy from an agent in Dallas, but only had to pay for the first month. When I returned I cancelled the policy and got a refund for the remainder of the month. My Washington car license and driver's license were both current. Unless it's changed I never had problems getting insurance when I had my car with expired Ca. license plates. I always went through segurogringo. BrianInMexico
You can buy the temporary Insurance policy that you need for the US at the O'Rourke insurance company (used to be a Lloyds office) in plaza next to HBC bank across from Walmart. Pay for the number of days that you need it in the US.
CallMeBob
SeguroGringo.com <http://www.SeguroGringo.com/> / National Unity Insurance Company <http://www.nationalunity.com/> All of the options seem to be for Mexican nationals or permanent residents. One of us has a temporal and the other is still on tourist. Which link(s) do/did you use on that page? Thanks!
jrod
You can live here permanently up to four years, yet still be on a temporal visa for your immigration status. We've had no issues from that perspective.
