Need Info buying new auto (SUV?) in Guad.

One more recommendation for Spencer. He took us to Guad about 3 or 4 times to look at cars. Pointed out several nice-looking cars that in fact, had major problems, like rolled back odometers. He's been in the business for a while now, even had his own repair shop. So he knows which car dealers are honest, and what models are more reliable. We ended up with a 2006 Honda CRV. Don't be afraid to buy used; cars here will last longer than up north due to the dry weather. Make sure the car has all the oil change and service records, with Kms marked for each one. Ours had all the records from the dealer, so we knew it had been cared for adequately.

If you want to do some research before you buy a car/new or used, a site that I used often is Edmonds.com. They have a forum where car owners write in and complain about problems. Just type in the Maker and Model of car you are interested in and read for yourself. If you see 700 transmission submissions about one model, you can bet that there are problems with transmissions.

As with any Post, remember that not all complainers or boosters are who we think they are. Nevertheless here is the site:

I've also relied on Edmunds over the years, both the reviews and the forums. But consider this caveat. While Edmunds is a useful NOB research tool, models sold in Mexico often differ significantly from their U.S. or Canadian counterparts. It's helpful to visit the manufacturers' Mexican web sites, which routinely detail every model's trim level, specifications and price.

I have used Spencer Shulman of S & S Auto and recommend him to everyone who wants to purchase a vehicle. He is honest and does everthing to ensure you get the right vehicle and it is properly registered in your name. There are potential pitfalls going it alone, especially if you are new and do not understand everything involved in buying a vehicle in this country.

S & S Auto 376-766-4800, located east of Walmart in Riberas on the north-side of the carretera.
