  1. From the last GDL Reporter: CHAPALA CONSIDERS FAIRER SPENDING FOR SATELLITE TOWNS "Ajijic could obtain additional municipal funding next year thanks to an initiative proposed by Chapala government solicitor Gamaliel Soto Perez, a leading council member of the city council. Earlier in the month as a member of the council's Treasury and Budget Committee, he presented an alternative 2024 budget plan, suggesting that the city's annual expenditures be distributed more equitably among the municipal seat and five satellite towns. The formula would be based on current official population figures and the amount of revenue each delegation generates for the municipality's general fund." "...The concept will certainly be welcomed by the residents of Ajijic who have long felt the tax revenue collected for the town's high real estate values and rates for water and sewage services puts far more money into the municipal coffers than it gets in return." GDL Reporter, January 6-12 edition, front page. Imagine, one day we might finally be able to show our visitors our tax dollars at work here in Ajijic instead of having to drive them to Chapala to see same. 😁
  2. There's a market for anything around here. Best bet is the Facebook page Beg Barter Buy Chapala or Lake Chapala classified. A used matrimonial is probably not worth much. Local orphanages are always looking for donations of things like this.
  3. True the above and we have noticed in the last few years checking and enforcement has really tightened up. Fortunately we will no longer be driving in and out mainly because the roads on the routes we need have been ground into a potholed, broken mess by all the trucks and lousy maintenance. You don't move to Mexico for the great roads. 😁
  4. Well, we ended up ordering Adelitas pizza because we like their other offerings and their home delivery has been excellen. MAJOR MISTAKE. Without doubt the worst pizza we've had here, maybe the worst in our long lives. Whomever fixed it hasn't a clue what pizza is supposed to look like and taste like. Imagine a pizza with no tomato sauce and some sort of mystery curdy gummy cheese not at all suitable for pizza with the other topping thrown loosely on top. A total lack of the normal seasoning one expects on pizza. Really bad, folks. Dominos is at least mediocre. This is far below Dominos. We'll continue to patronize Adelitas for their good rib meals but never again this awful pizza. It wasn't cheap so we are trying to figure out if it is fixable before tossing the thing out in the trash. UPDATE: Unfixable. For the first time in my long life we threw out half a pizza. That's how bad it was.
  5. Volaris has the worst ground services I've ever seen in an airline. From check in to boarding, it is a mess. Unfortunately they are the only ones who fly direct from GDL to Oaxaca or we'd avoid them like the plague. Other airlines connect through Mexico City which is a form of Hell all of its own. Typical Volaris experience coming back from Oaxaca on Tuesday. After the usual cattle stampede boarding in Oaxaca, actually left on time and arrived a few minutes early in GDL. Despite literally a dozen unused jetway ports in plain site they park out on the tarmac and we sit. And we sit. We sit for 40 minutes waiting to deplane because they managed to not have one of those PIA transfer buses anywhere around. It was clear the plane crew was pissed but nothing they did seem to matter. So Volaris crappy ground service managed to turn a slightly early flight into one that we finally got off the damned plane 40 minutes late. Our last Volaris flight before this one from Oaxaca was similarly botched. We all stampede onto the plane seemingly on time we go to the runway for takeoff. The plane actually starts to takeoff and then aborts. Turns out the Volaris geniuses in Oaxaca managed to underfuel the plane. Why the pilot failed to notice he didn't have enough gas before starting to takeoff escapes me but there was yet another 40 minute delay since Volaris couldn't seem to get the fuel truck back expeditiously. Volaris sucks. We hate them. 🤬
  6. Looks like the Pizza Del Barrio in San Antonio is gone, we really liked it. Looking to order in a good pizza this evening. How good is Adelitas Pizza? We order ribs from there, the delivery is always excellent. Any other recommended pizza not too far away from SE Ajijic that delivers? Thanks.
  7. I think the problem is also all the often overloaded and massive increase in truck traffic with NAFTA.. The roads in this country just aren't built for the pounding they deliver and that includes for the most part the Cuotas as well. Clearly the maintenance and quality of construction is far below that necessary for a decent road system now. Other than the governor of Jalisco who will be stepping down next year I don't hear any of the Mexican politicians giving any indication they know how bad the roads are. There just doesn't seem to be any serious national level recognition of the need for better roads even as car ownership increases rapidly.
  8. You would be correct. Whether toll or free, it seems in Zacatecas all the roads are beaten to death by the truck traffic. Durango has done some work on 45 but it is still pretty poor. But the worst has to be north of Chihuahua. Hard to describe how bad that road is until you get to the toll part. We used to keep an RV in Las Cruces NM but finally decided that drive just wasn't worth it. Beats me how a country with such bad roads is going to become a near shoring success. Maybe if all the factories are right on the U.S. border.
  9. EZ PZ. Took two tanks there, filled immediately by friendly attendant who put them in the car for me. Very easy to spot on the NW side of the road just past the two restaurants and the big shop.
  10. Going there this morning for two tank fulls and will report back the results.
  11. The truth is all governments love to underestimate or even fib about inflation. There's plenty of it here as well, particularly in local restaurants, rents and government. When we moved here 15 years ago, it was significantly cheaper than now even with the Peso around $10. That's how substantial inflation has been here. Pretty hard to not having taken a 15-20 percent hit here in the last couple years. This place is no longer cheap. We just got back from Oaxaca and in the city there's been a lot of inflation in rents as well. Our hosts live in a small town about a half hour south and they noted a U.S. family rented a house there for about $400 per month, moving out of Oaxaca because of the rents. That is so unusual the whole town knows about it and wondering if it is just the beginning. Although the U.S. Fed is talking lower interest rates, so is the Mexican Fed. If you invest in Cetes here, now is the time to go as long as possible. Mexico News Daily has a piece predicting the Peso will drop significantly next year.
  12. Good. Use it extensively. Note it does not work north of Durango state (Torreon) going north. Watch out when putting money on it, a crooked Oxxo employee at the Oxxo next to Intercam ripped me off once putting money on it. It is great for going to Manzanillo, you really can zip along. Not sure what happens when the battery runs down, I try to not leave a lot of money on it after a trip.
  13. I can't blame them. The government can't protect any public official, let alone the police. Mexico is a narco state. If you are a cop here you have two choices: Take the money and see nothing, hear nothing, do nothing. OR You are dead. Just stay away from these people. Don't buy drugs from them, as some expats locally do. Don't go to any club they go to, stick to the old gringo hangouts. And stay off the streets at night. They really aren't interested in you if you aren't interested in them.
  14. Their web site still shows it at that price but you have to order and have it sent.
  15. Trying to locate this GasRosa place on Google Earth. Shows it just past LetraCH, Ruta104 and Greg's auto clinic on the same side of the road. Is this correct?

  17. It was deliberate, apparently well organized and they took down a half dozen from Chapala to Jocotepec. And they managed it with no apparent witnesses. https://www.informador.mx/jalisco/Seguridad-en-Jalisco-Vandalizan-cerca-de-una-decena-de-postes-del-C5-Escudo-Urbano-20231214-0088.html
  18. That's interesting, a 200 peso price difference from on line versus in the store. Looking at the web site I see no way for in store pickup as is common NOB.
  19. Keep it civil, Usvets. We stick to Cetes through Actinver as well. Yields have been not so hot until this year but the principal is safe. Thanks.
  20. It looks like Gas Rosa will be our best option. I wonder if they sell those small gas tanks the DeLonghi space heaters use. Given how cold it appears this next several months are going to be and how far we have to go for refills we will want to have a spare full tank on hand. If they don't have the tanks, who does? No we don't want to drive all the way to Home Depot in GDL. Given the cost of operating a car these days paying a little more to get one locally makes sense.
  21. Want to install a larger sink in our existing still near perfect granite tops. I need someone who can cut a larger opening on two sides. Beveling not needed as the new sink is a drop in and will cover the opening edges. Same person should know how to remove existing undermount sinks. Ran a search but posts on this topic are pretty old. Here is the sink. https://www.wayfair.com/home-improvement/pdp/ruvati-33-l-x-22-w-drop-in-kitchen-sink-ruvt1613.html Gracias!
