  1. More and more traffic, more 2 and 3 storey houses less land available, more doctors and clinics/hospitals , faster and better internet, more badly paved road even the prolongation of Ocampo is paved now.etc.. I ll be leaving after I sell my house for another part of Mexico.
  2. Education or training is the key to help people.. giving food, clothing , overpaying etc can only be temporary, It is a blackhole and have people expecting to be helped...not good in the long run for anyone.
  3. Mexicans ask for a better prices and the foreigners do not..
  4. I have fiber here and like it. I do not have it in San Cristobal and I pay twice as much for telmex there than here and stillhave lousy service.
  5. I feel there is gringo prcing for some of the services. like some mecanics, masons, but not in the stores or at the tianguis in general. I encounter much more gringo pricing in Oaxaca or Chiapas than here so it is not specific to this area. In Chiapas I literaly live a month at a time with indigenous so I shop with them and know what they pay so I know what the price is but oftn will not get it if I am alone in a place whee they do not know me.
  6. Honeybee, I think that the minimum wage perday is 207.44 per day. last year was like 123 0r 5.. and Amlo is planning to raise it again..So it is going to raise the amout of money foreigners are going to need to retire in Mexico.. Cleaning ladies are always making more than the minimum wage unless they are live in so it does not affect their earnings. Paying over the market only helps onflation. If you feel generous help the kids going to school , give them scholarships to encourage them to stay in school and earn a better living later on. Right now inflation is pretty crazy and there is a very large disparity between salries in th various states.. A Chiapaneca friend of mine told her relatives to come and work at the berry farms in Ocotlan or Jocotepec, they pay 2000 pesos a week which is above minimum wage but her relative told us they could earn more money in construction in Cancun so they all left gor Cancun. Cancun has become more attractive than the US to them as they are legal there so can come and go as they please and earn a decent living if they share accomodation. In the villages the masons make 250 to 300 a day and the helper 200 a day and for poor people the salaries offeredin Cancun are great right now. If people want to help the locals encourage their kids to go to schoo and get a better education so they can earn more money lateron, do not pay over the market as it only rises people s expectations, make IMSS go up and will raise what you have to pay when you lt them go. Pappysmarket , yes Martinique and Guadalupe can be fun over the 14th of July but please you and Honeybee refrain from bringing up anything French as it really irritates Lakeside7 ..Ok to speak about the US ad nauseum or Canada but do not mention France please as it ha nothing to do with Mexico
  7. It is part of Poncitlan municipality and not in Chapala municipality which I think makes your taxes lower and not sure about the municipality service like police or fire department. It is surrounded by ejido land but I believe it is private land. You should check with a notary on that one to make sure thre is no problem with the ejido it used to be part of if it was.
  8. who remembers what it was in 2000? Do you? just found it, it was 40 something pesos a day , under 41 pesos a day and now I believe it is over 200 pesos a day.
  9. One comes every two weeks at the Vet near Tio SAM
  10. when the dollar was at 6 to 12 life here was very cheap, I sure did not pay 100 pesos for a gardener or a maid
  11. I have a vanilla orchid on a tree here and it has produced beans without help but better polinated them by hand if you want beans for sure.In cuestzalan and Chiapas there are great pots made out of fern roots but I think it is is illegal to ship them unfortunately.
  12. and for a whole lot of people it was the beginning of the end...They only found one prisoner in the Bastille so it was all a phony excuse to take the place and destroy it.
  13. yes orchids aare fascinating, I found out last time I was in France that a specific orchid grew in my ssister lawn and she kept cutting it with the mower, now she mows around it but I never knew we had orchids in France and even less growing in lawns. An enthemologist friend of mine tells me they are endangered.. no wonder if they grown in lawn...
  14. wild orchids also grown in the ground, it depends on the type of orchids. Both in CHiapas we have wild orchids growing in the ground.
  15. Banks are very picky about signatures and so are other outfits. One day I had someone imitate my signature to get a phone as they kept refusing my signature.. go figure..
  16. I just got back from France and Belgium and I did not find any bargain there..Strong pesos or not.. Since I get my pension in dollars converted in Pesos I lose the 20% , period and then I have to turn srould and pay in Euro... no deal there..
  17. Ajjic is not the center of the universe and whether it rains here or not it is irrelevant . The weather has changed we have humidity in the air and clouds and it rains here and there the rainy season has started and we will get rain in due time . There are clouds so it is not the same in the whole area but all you have todo is step outside and feel the air and know it is the rainy season..no more pure blue sky..and rain here and there. We will eventually get more rain, it is just the beginning,
  18. sorry for the typo the pleasant climate in the tropics is at 5000 feet or 1500 m.. Five thousand mters is way too high.. I was in Peru at 5000 meters with an Argentinian couple who came from see levels and they had to be transported out not a good altitude to even walk.. I did better because I live many months of the year betwen 2000 and 3 000 meters so the difference was not so great, but still, my feet were dragging and I was exhausted..
  19. My Tapatio friends have a place in San Juan but they returned to Guadaljara bcause they say the smoke was awfullast week. They are now in Mazamitla enjoying the cool weather and others are in Tapalap, that is where they run awy if they can afford it. They are all complaining about the heat in Guadaljara, AC or not..
  20. I work with 350 artisans and we communicate a lot and I can always get a prompt answer with whatsapp and I do not with email and most of them do not have a house phone and if they do they do not listen to messages or leave messages. SO that is my eperiencemI personaly only look at whatsapp messages, my house phone is never answered and I do not look at messages. the telcel line many times does not work when I am at home and I do not know many people who answer emails. My xperience with Mexicans.
  21. yes back to the drawing board, I never found that reference in National Geographic and apparently I am not the only one, People repeat things without checking but just check it and tell me which authority says it is the best climate.. Climates in the tropics at around 5000 m are usually pleasant but they seem to also difer a bit . I really do not think there is abest climate .. some days are perfect and some are not...
  22. I know someone who lived there and he did not think the climate was that great so I think each person has its own idea of what great means . Always heard the climate around Nairobi was great, it turns out these places are all arounfd the same altitude..
  23. Mexicans responses to whatsapp are way betterthan foreigners´so use whatsapp
