The priest in San Antonio is back and blasting away from 7:30am til 8. We hear him loud and clear in Riviera Alta. I thought he was told to stop. It is very annoying but guess there is nothing we can do about it.

I really like it. In La Floresta it is far enough away to sound like a chanting monk. Kinda like getting an early morning blessing from the Universe

If it's a problem, someone should talk to the Sr. Cura in Chapala, who is Fr. Gilberto's boss. I don't hear it in Mirasol.

You can call the police @ 765.4444
They will investigate & talk to the people involved. If the noise does not stop, call again & again & again. These calls will
go on record

You think the police are going to force the local parish priest to do anything? Don't they want to go to heaven too. The police can't (or won't) even stop a very loud party in Chula Vista that takes place at a wealthy Mexican home owners place every so often.

I know it must be irritating to those who live close by. We live just far enough away that it doesn't startle us awake. I would prefer his chanting to the loud techno music the mall brings us on weekend nights... until 1 a.m. or later.

As I said, complain to the Sr. Cura in Chapala if it bothers you.

From talking to friends who live nearby, they have talked to the head priest in Chapala and several people in Guadalajara. It is not only the gringos who are angry and upset. Many Mexicans are angry too but afraid to criticize the priest publicly.

I would be more worried about noise after midnight than at 7:30 in the morning. I think the roosters, dogs and birds make more noise than the priest does.

It tends to be noisy here anyway, particularly in the villages. If there are any noise ordinances, they don't enforce them (that's not surprising).

Actually, not so.

The priest is violating the Mexican Constitution unless he has permission to broadcast his outdoor sermon. Show him a copy of Article 24 and ask him if he has permission and who gave him the permission.

http://en.wikipedia....ki/Cristero_War

Article 24 states that: "Every man shall be free to choose and profess any religious belief as long as it is lawful and it cannot be punished under criminal law. The Congress shall not be authorized to enact laws either establishing or prohibiting a particular religion. Religious ceremonies of public nature shall be ordinarily performed at the temples. Those performed outdoors shall be regulated under the law.

The Mexican constitution prohibits outdoor worship, which is only allowed in exceptional circumstances, generally requiring governmental permission. Religious organizations are not permitted to own print or electronic media outlets, governmental permission is required to broadcast religious ceremonies, and ministers are prohibited from being political candidates or holding public office

Interestingly, the last few days the bells haven't been ringing as usual. Normally they ring at 6:30, 6:45 and 7:00.

He started a little earlier today--but thankfully, quit earlier.

Get over yourselves. IMHO, this is the most ridiculous complaint, commentary, criticism, whatever post of all time. Heaven help the heathens in Mexico. Patti

Patti - as you are not having to endure the problem, I suggest that your comments have no validity.

I still don't hear it in Mirasol. However, if it causes problems for those who do, then I suggest, yet again, complaining to the Sr. Cura in Chapala, Fr. Gilberto's superior. If Fr. Gilberto isn't careful and enough people complain to the Sr. Cura, Fr. G. runs the risk of being banished to the hinterlands.
