THEATER AND SUCH

Shame on you if you stayed away from The
Gin Game. The card game was the springboard for two geriatrics to
discuss aging, family, and finally to be honest with themselves. As
we got to know the foibles of these two people, played expertly by Jeritza
and Robert McCarter, we laughed until the tears came. While there is
no way to stop aging, the McCarters put a humorous spin on the inevitable.
They got a standing ovation from a smiling audience and they deserved
it.
Next up is The Gingerbread Lady,
directed by Barbara Clippinger Keener. It is an early Neil Simon, but
the spark of his humor is there in the interaction between a recovering
alcoholic, an ex-lover, her friends and family.
Barbara has turned out to be a fine director
and she is working with an able cast.
The season will finish with the upbeat
play, The Sunshine Boys, taking the place of the Ayn Rand's rather
dreary Night of January 16.
Two nights, February 20 & 26 at La
Huerta de Serna's Evento will be the scene of a three act musical play,
Spirits Rising, written and directed by John Finnegan and produced
by his wife, Celeste. The dances will be performed by New Steps, a Guadalajara
Dance Company. Tickets available at ReMax and Amigo Tour & Travel
Agency.
Also in February, the Circle theaters
production of You´re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, under the
guidance of the talented Cindy Paul. Tickets at ReMax.
There were no mime shows last year, but
Ruben Nuñez and his troupe will make us tap our feet and laugh
again when he presents his all new mime production of LIPSYNKA. The
show will once again be held in the La Floresta Auditorio on Feb, 8,
9, and 10. Tickets available at the box office beginning Jan. 21, 10-2PM
It was a sell-out before, so buy early.
