In existence for more than fifty years, the LCS today with a membership of some 2700 is the largest ex-pat organization in the world. The Society conducts classes for the Mexicans in Computer Training, Cooking, English, and Art. Comprised mainly of Canadians and Americans, its president, Jim Penton, holds passports from both countries. Jim sums up the Society's attitude toward our Mexican hosts with the motto: Con amistad y respeto. The Lake Chapala Society serves as a focal point for the ex-pat community. Located in Ajijic, it maintains a library, a video rental program, serves as a center for information and as a meeting place. It prints a directory listing names, addresses and phone numbers of its members, plus phone numbers of the police, Red Cross, Telephone Co. and Electric Co. all vital information for those living in an area with no phone boo
