Around the Town
AROUND THE TOWN
Don't miss seeing and hearing Jean-Pierre and his group at Viva Maria every Thursday night. The performance begins at 8 PM with plenty of inside seating. This multi-talented group plays all sorts of music that takes you back to remembering when. John could be mistaken for Lionel Hampton with his skill on the xylophone and both Gene and Jean-Pierre play more than one brass instrument. If you close your eyes, you would swear you were listening to the voice of Fats Domino or Louie Armstrong. Among those ringside were Helayne Carver, Mardy Anderson, Barbara Hartman, and Jim Buckett.
Brits Celebrate
Around 85 Brits and Canadians were out in force to celebrate the Queen&rsqu;Ns Birthday at a luncheon at the Nuevo Posada on July 3rd. On hand was Simon Cohen and his wife, Lizette from the British Embassy in Guadaljara, and Ken Fossit and his wife, the lovely Rosa Maria. Other guests included Pat Lee, Jean Strange, Gerry Berry, Tony Dare and his sister, Pamela Swaby.
Visiting
Mother, Marion Greenhalgh and her daughter, Stephanie came to visit Eileen Greenhalgh for the month of June. Jaquie Jones initiated a pool party and picnic so 16 year old Stephanie could meet some Mexican friends in her age range. As usual, when you are having fun, the difference in the language proved to be no barrier at all.
Birthday
Champagne and soft drinks flowed when Mary Andrews and friends brought the party to La Casa Nostra to honor the 88th birthday of her mother, Sara Conrad. Her brother Jim and his close friend, Norma flew in from Florida for the event. The place was festive with colored balloons, cake, flowers, and finger foods set to a background of danceable music provided by Hugh Hunter, who donated his fee to the Red Cross. Hunter mentioned his long months of work with Guy and Dolls made many people think he had given up entertaining for private parties. Wrong. After he and Dawn return from Canada in September, he will be ready willing and "pianoble".
In Remembrance
The members of the Lakeside Garden Guild were saddened by the sudden death of Linda Newman, She was a popular member and served as the Librarian for the guild. A donation in her memory was sent to the Red Cross.
