Bits and Pieces

Acting has gone to the dogs. Literally. Two scene stealing Yorkies, Oliver and Dickens have made their theater debut. Dickens appeared in Guys and Dolls. Not to be outdone, Oliver strutted his stuff in. "Scraps." Neither had speaking parts. .

The "Music Express" dinner dance, which touted big band music, accomplished its goal of raising money to benefit The School for the Deaf .in their quest to supply a room with computers and software for the students. There were four hundred and fifty five people paying 250 pesos a head for the dinner and the entertainment of the band and singers. Drinks were not included. The plus side was the music and the nice start that was made toward getting a room ready for the soft ware and the computers. Finding out where you were seated was speedy and well organized. The down side was being unable to hear the speakers out in the hinterlands, tepid food, undercooked chicken, and a limited bar. The signs for drinks, said, "Beer Wine and Margaritas." A lot of people who were not fond of what was offered went directly to the hotel bar; ordered and paid the hotel bar for what they wanted. When so many more tickets are sold than can easily be accommodated, perhaps less is best.

The Hotel Real de Chapala has made vast improvements in their outdoor facilities. You are now protected from rain or harsh sun at outdoor gatherings by a permanent, semi-transparent roof.

August saw the ribbon cutting ceremony for the permanent offices of The Internacional Film Festival at CABA. At cut-off time, the committee had more than a 160 entries to preview Together, the Garden Club and the Garden Guild are revamping and updating, "The Planting Calendar and Garden Guide." This book, full of when to's and how to's has not been redone for over 11 years. The new version will be in Spanish and in English. The original went by the months; an easy way to find out what to prune, plant, care for, and how to control pests;. organically and with insecticide.

This book will be a must for every gardener and should be ready to go on sale shortly after the first of the year. The cost of the book will be determined after the committee knows how much the printing will cost.
