FOCUS ON ART

Art is not always related to creativity, it can also be defined as a skill.
When Vierl and Zoe Bunnell were thinking about hanging it all up, they began to look all over the country for just the right place. Retired from AT&T, Vierl, took over the management of an Ace hardware Store. The owner's wife was from Guadalajara and talked about the wonderful climate in the area. The Bunnell's arrived at Lakeside eleven years ago to "look" around.
Before they returned to their home in California, they had purchased a house, which they rented out for several years.
When Zoe left Pacific Telephone they moved here permanently. Did they rest on their laurels? Not for a moment. Both Zoe and Vierl are early risers and are on the golf course by 7:30 Monday through Friday. When visiting their home, I noticed a whole wall full of complimentary letters and plaques for volunteer work they had done in the past. Well,
they say a rolling stone gathers no moss and when these two stones got here, they never quit rolling.
Vierl served as the 98-99 President of the Chapala Society. He worked closely with the Transito and the mayors Security Council and is still a member and frequently consulted.
Both Bunnells feel an urgent need to enhance any community they reside in and this community is no exception. You will find the "Bunnell" crowd tending bar at most functions. Vierl has made satisfactory arrangements with a local liquor store. They won't work a bar unless all profits go to a charity. There are several, but the Niños Incapacitados and the Casa de Ancianos of which he is the treasurer are the most frequent recipients. If they happen to win the fifty-fifty raffle, the money is returned.
Hooking up with Jim Kaye, the Casa de Ancianos has been repainted. The services of a doctor, and physical therapist have been added and small condos for those who can be self-sufficient are being built. Bunnell wants these older people to be able to live with dignity.
At present, Vierl and Zoe pay for the education of an employee's three children. Zoe also finds time to work at her hobby of making stained glass and she is no slouch at it either.
This time the Focus on Art Column is a focus on the ART OF GIVING.
