      Who can forget the thrill of that very first orchid? Whether you were a young man wondering whether a single flower was worth all that money—until you saw her face—or the young woman beaming with delight at receiving it, an orchid corsage was another milestone on the road toward maturity. In fact, since its name comes from the Greek orchis, meaning testicle, the orchid is an apt, if somewhat crude, symbol for the human mating game. Theoprastus, a student of Aristotle, thought the tuberoids of certain species resembled that part of the male anatomy and the name stuck.
