La Bodega Joins the Shriner’s Cause for Disabled Kids April 26 La Bodega Restaurant was the fourth in the area to join the Lake Chapala Shrine Club in helping the financially disadvantaged Mexican children who have received burns and/or crippling injuries get the medical help necessary to make them whole again. La Bodega owners Javier and Marta Gonzalez donated the entire proceeds from the sale of the special chicken dinners that were the special of the day. The funds collected go to the Shriner Transportation Fund to help defray the cost of transporting them to one of the Shriners Children’s Hospitals in Mexico City where they receive the necessary treatment from local as well as visiting “Doctors without Borders.” In addition to medical treatment, the hospitals provide therapy as well as necessary prosthetic devices, completely without charge. Anyone should be commended for helping to make our community a better place to live for everyone—especially the smallest and most vulnerable among us. |
