Guadalajara Pianist
Brightens Northern Lights
At
the last concert of the incredibly wonderful Northern Lights Festival
Orchestra, the evening’s entertainment was enhanced by the performance
of the head of the U. of Guadalajara’s musical studies program,
piano virtuoso Joel Juan Qui. The entire program of Mendelssohn, Chopin
and Tchaikovsky was one of the best that the Lights has presented, still
it was the pianist Joel Juan Qui’s interpretation of Larghetto
that compelled my eyes to close and sent my thoughts back in time to
when I was about five, holding my twin sister’s hand while learning
to rollerskate on a St. Louis sidewalk. The entire program was so beautiful
it will linger long in the audience’s memory. Some of the locals
who have worked long and hard to bring the ensemble to Ajijic are Dan
and Paula McTavish and Donna Carnell. We thank all those who have provided
us with such a rare treat.
