Canadians & Americans Celebrate With Pride & Pizazz July 1st is Canada Day, the day when Canadians celebrate the birth of their country that began July 1, 1867, when Queen Victoria granted them independence. Canada consists of various provinces, speaking with folks hailing from them, each province adds its own distinctive touch to the celebration, giving residents individualistic pride in the manner in which they celebrate the day. Above all on this day, the entire country displays the white Canadian flag with the red maple leaf in its center. It is flown aloft, worn, or is carried from every possible vantage, and the most popular tune of the day is the Canadian anthem, Oh Canada. This year, for the first time, on Friday, July 1, Noon to 3 p.m., the Canadian Club invited everyone to a big picnic & bbq at the Old Posada to join in the celebration. It was a fun day and especially so because it gave an opportunity for non-Canadians to take part in the celebration and learn more about the country and its traditions. |
