The
Shriners Club Of Chapala
Tony’s
Restaurant in San Antonio—another of the generous local restaurants
that offers their premises to charitable groups—donated 100% of
the sale of ribs at the Shriners Club fundraiser held February 24. All
proceeds went to the cost of transportation of Mexican kids with burns
and orthopedic conditions to the Shriners Hospital in Mexico City. The
Shriners have an international reputation for the excellence of their
hospitals and the work they do for children of all nationalities who
have suffered disfiguring and/or disabling injuries sustained genetically
or the result of accidents. Working closely with the “Doctors
without Borders,” the Shriners bring the doctors to Mexico instead
of taking the children to the doctors in the US for treatment. We were
informed that the cost of treating children at the 22 Mexico City Shriners
Hospitals is over 1,000,000 US dollars per day.
To
help defray this cost, the Shrine Club is holding a fundraiser every
month at Lakeside restaurants. Johanna’s and Johnny’s Trattatoria
have helped by hosting an event. These children are part of the future
of Mexico and a healthy body is essential for them to become a part
of Mexico’s growth. Everyone is urged to attend as many of these
events as possible.
