Walking the Walk

     * Have you heard about the Needlepushers of Ajijic? Members of Needlepushers have been sewing, knitting and crocheting for local schoolchildren since 1961! Last September this group of ladies and some spouses and male friends living at Lakeside distributed 170 dresses and 108 T-shirts to local Mexican children. The schools chosen for this year’s distribution were in Nextipec, El Chante and near Six Corners in Ajijic. The T-shirts, purchased in Guadalajara, were given to grade-school boys, while the girls received lovingly created dresses sewn by Needlepushers’ volunteer seamstresses. In November, warm and colorful sweaters, scarves, mittens and hats handmade by other Needlepushers will be given away.
Would you like to help also? The group welcomes new members at any time to cut out dresses, assemble or finish them, knit or crochet. Contact Roberta Hilleman at 766-3328, or e-mail robertah105@yahoo.com. The group also gratefully accepts donations of T-shirts, yarn, fabrics and sewing supplies or money to purchase such items.
