Wilson: A Notice to Collectors
Longtime Mexico resident, bronze artist,
and self-mastered man Robert Wilson celebrates 50 years of work and
two decades of marriage. At 75, Wilson is contemplating retirement from
the complex, specialized discipline of lost wax bronze sculpture. "I
sculpted for 20 years until I felt ready to cast, taught many students,
and ran a foundry in Oklahoma City for 11 years. My own work aside,
I’m gratified to have had an influence on others whose pieces
are now firmly established in private collections and museums all over
the Southwestern United States." Despite his claim of journeyman,
his own work sits firmly in the realm of fine art. Twenty-eight hammered
lead and cast bronze works can be seen at the Studio Art Gallery at
Ramon Corona #11 in Ajijic. Collectors should pay special attention
to his "Esperanza" series, as well as his exquisite hammered
lead portraits. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
