     * Christmas Treats: The Samaritanos sin Fronteras foundation has issued a plea for 6,000 “penny prizes” (balloons, puzzles, toys, fruits or nuts) to include in its Christmas baskets for Lakeside primary school students with an assortment of candies purchased by the foundation. Anyone who may be able to provide tiny prizes is asked to contact 765-5916 or wwjdddd@hotmail.com so that the foundation can plan to pick them up on or before November 20.

The education committee of the Samaritanos sin Fronteras foundation reports that a local primary school has  at last been convinced that computacion should be a core course taught to students by all teachers. When the Marcos Castellanos school in Ajijic received 20 new computers from the government, the director, Simón Ursua Estrada, hired a computater teacher— not to teach students, but to teach teachers. The foundation calls this a “giant leap forward in primary education.”

     * Each October ACA celebrates a fall sweet-corn harvest that captures the imaginations of Lakeside residents. This year revisit the golden days for a full two days, Oct. 23 and 24 from 11 to 5. Included in the festivities are blue ribbon baked goods and the delicious sweet corn dripping with butter. Enjoy the organic gardens at the Mesquite bar and hot off the grill burgers and sausage. Check out this year’s display booths, as well as spectacular fine arts exhibits. To exhibit or volunteer call 01 387 763 1568. ACA Harvest Fair tickets are available starting October 1 at LCS ticket center and the Market store in Jaltepec Eco Center. 100% of net proceeds benefit ACA community training programs to promote conservation of our natural resources and eliminate the use of toxic chemicals.
