Cannes, Ajijic is going to be on the map when its film Festival officially opens on November 4th with the film, “Crazy in Alabama” starring Melanie Griffith and directed by her husband, Antonio Banderas, who is making his debut as a director.
September 1st was the deadline for film entries and at last count there were one hundred and one entered for consideration. And they have come from all over the world; Australia to Yugoslavia with many countries in between.
On October 16th, Columbia Pictures will release “The Patriot” starring Steven Segal . The picture will be used as a fund raiser and will be shown in Guadalajara. Tickets may be purchased at CABA.
We are also promised “The Winslow Boy” adapted from a play by Terrence Rattigan, “Best Laid Plan” with Carrie Snodgress, and Universal’s “October Sky.”
From France comes “Ca Commence Aujourd Hui” (All Starts Today), “Niagara, Niagara”.from Quality Films and the Spanish film, “Lluvia en tus Zapatos.” (The Man With Rain in His Shoes). Several more are promised from Warner Studios, but as yet the titles have not been received.
In all likiehood we will also have the advance showing of the much touted, “Tea With Mussolini”, which is already rumored to be a huge hit.
Jim Lloyd, Festival President, says much of the credit for the films received from the major studios must go to Marcela Gutierrez. She is well known in the film industry for her track record as a publicist and is a master in the business of public relations. She once handled the publicity for the well known Mexican star, Cantinflas.
There will be a party at CABA for Inner Circle Festival members on the 9th of October. On sale will be Cantinflas memorabilia. The Cantinflas display will be open to the general public on October 10th.
