Loretto Clay gave a cocktail party in honor of Janet Harkey who was in town visiting old friends. Janet and her late husband, Gene, were active in bridge circles. Later she moved to Houston to be near family, but the dust of Mexico still calls and she listens.
Jacque Jones hosted a lively Margarita Party for friends. As usual her botanas made everyone want to linger longer.
Eileen Greenhalgh and her guest, Doris, headed for the beach for five days of R&R. They were accompanied by Sylvia Ramos and Betty Batchelor. They tried a new hotel with reasonable rates and said the beach there was fantastico.
Many parties to welcome Jim and Joan Miller, who were here for a visit. They were missed when they moved to Texas and everyone was glad to see them return for a short stay.
The orchestra for the Dinner Dance to raise funds for Hands Around the Lake had the crowd on its feet doing every kind of dancing except tap and ballet. The attendance surpassed all expectations. The bidding for the jewelry was spirited. Some of the volunteers who worked hard to make this a success were Trudy Nelson, Bobbie Chandler, Pat Getchell, Lee Carson and Aurora Michel.
Anyone noticed the new lady in town? At first, some people thought Denny Strole had another lady on his arm at the dinner dance, but on closer inspection it turned out to be his wife, Dagmar, sporting a flattering new hair style.
The Chili Cook-off was a huge success and who will forget the big truck towing a heavy duty traíler with two-ton Juan (or Juanessa) anchored to it, although no restraints were visible. Every time the truck had to come to a stop beneath the canopy of trees, the elephant lifted its trunk and grazed on the leaves.
Last month one of the town’s most colorful police officers, Alberto, took himself off the eligible list and married his Lidia. A good portion of the town witnessed the wedding and went to the reception.
Sandra and D’are Kingham renewed their vows in front of several luncheon guests at the Nueva Posada. The Reverend Bill Klink conducted the declaration of love ceremony.
Doting grandparents, Ann and Frank Gill went to the States to attend the christening of their new grandchild.
Lady Pamela Swaby had a flock of visitors. First came her sister, Cynthia, with her husband, Ken, and then her daughter Marcia came to recuperate from surgery and was later joined by husband, David.
